James didn’t say a word. His eyes, red and furious, locked onto Tyler sitting in his wheelchair. In a flash, he lunged forward and kicked hard, sending both Tyler and the wheelchair crashing to the floor. The impact was brutal. Tyler’s forehead slammed against the edge of the table, and blood immediately started to trickle down.
“Mr. Nelson!” The assistant’s voice shook as he rushed over to help.
James was seething, every word coming out cold and sharp. “Don’t even try to tell me Emmy’s disappearance has nothing to do with you.”
Tyler wiped at his bleeding forehead, his fingers coming away sticky with blood. He stared at it for a moment, then out of nowhere, he actually laughed.
That was when Steve burst in, breathless and angry, and slapped a file down on the coffee table in front of Tyler. “Mr. Nelson, these are all the Sparrow Group projects Dean transferred into your name. How could you trade Mrs. Nelson for this? For profit?”
Cadence snatched up the file. The more she read, the more her face fell. She’d been at the shareholders’ meeting earlier. She’d thought it was odd how Tyler had managed to solve Brian’s pressure so quickly, in just an hour. Now it all made sense. The leverage Tyler used to push Brian out of the domestic market had come straight from Sparrow Group.
Tyler didn’t expect Steve to dig everything up so fast. But now that it was all out, he just didn’t care anymore. He leaned on his assistant’s arm, sat up slowly, and looked straight at James. Then he asked something no one expected.
“James, would you give up the entire Nelson Corporation for Emmy?”
James rushed forward, grabbing Tyler by the collar. “Where is Emmy?”
“She just had a baby. Do you even understand how fragile she is right now?” James’s voice was raw, desperate.
Tyler was struggling to breathe, but the smirk never left his face. “But Dean would. He’d give up all of Sparrow Group’s holdings for her. Honestly, James, even I was moved by how much Dean is willing to sacrifice.”
“I’m asking you one last time. Where is Emmy?”
James was shaking with rage, ready to hit him again, when a strong hand grabbed his wrist, stopping him. Jared’s calm voice broke through the tension.
“James, you need to calm down. Dean might be crazy, but he gave up everything for Emmy. She’s safe with him, at least. This has already gone too far. Hitting Tyler won’t change anything. You should save your energy and focus on finding them.”
James clenched his jaw, his eyes burning. He yanked his arm free from Jared’s grip, then shot Tyler a look so cold it could have frozen him in place. There was disappointment in that look, and fury, and something that said, we’re finished.
Without another word, James turned and walked out. Steve hesitated for a second, then quickly followed him.
