Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 667

She fumbled for her phone, barely awake, and answered, pressing it to her ear.

“Hello…”

Her voice was thick with sleep, soft and a little whiny, almost like she was still dreaming.

There was a brief pause on the other end. Then a man’s deep, smooth voice came through.

“Did I wake you?”

The sound of James’s voice cut through her sleepy haze and she woke up a bit, blinking as she pushed herself up in bed. “No, I’m still up. Haven’t even washed up yet…”

I wish you were here.

The thought snuck up on her, warm and unexpected.

If James were here, she wouldn’t have to lift a finger. He’d take care of everything, maybe even carry her to the bathroom and help her brush her teeth. Emmy hadn’t realized when it started, but somewhere along the line, she’d gotten used to depending on him this much.

“If you’re really tired, just skip it,” James said, his voice calm and reassuring. “Just make sure you stay warm and get some rest.”

“That won’t work for me,” Emmy grumbled, dragging herself out of bed. She put him on speaker and set the phone on the bathroom counter. “I put on makeup today to meet someone important. If I don’t wash it off, I’ll feel gross.”

Water splashed as she started her nighttime routine, her words coming out muffled.

“Oh, I forgot to tell you. I met Mr. Jared today, the head of the Nelson family.”

“I used to hear all these scary stories from Abriella about how intimidating he is, but honestly, he seemed pretty down-to-earth to me.”

“He’s this big shot, but he doesn’t act stuck-up at all. He actually cared about the rural aid project and asked all these detailed questions.”

“And when he looked at the farming equipment, he seemed so serious, like he was admiring art or something.”

“Really, he was nothing like I imagined. He felt more like some inspiring hero straight out of a history book.”

She kept chatting, but then noticed James hadn’t said anything for a while.

Spitting out her toothpaste, she called, “Babe? Did you fall asleep?”

“No.”

His voice sounded a little rough.

After a second, he spoke again, softer this time.

“So… was he nice to you?”

“He was,” Emmy said, patting her face dry with a towel. She sounded more relaxed now, almost sleepy again.

“He seemed to like my presentation. His questions were tough, but I answered all of them. I just hope… they’ll give us more support this time.”
