Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 43

The smug grin on the old man’s face disappeared in a flash.

“What?!” He shot up from his chair. “She’s gone? She left without even seeing me?”

His mustache quivered as he glared around the room, seething. “That girl has no persistence at all! Unbelievable. Someone, go stop her!”

Before anyone could react, he was already rushing out the door, moving way faster than anyone would expect for his age, the video call still running behind him.

On the screen, his student’s voice echoed, sounding helpless, “Professor! Don’t lose your temper!”

Emmy hadn’t actually left—she’d just gone down the street to a convenience store, grabbed some bread for a quick bite, and picked out a few thoughtful health supplements before heading back to the manor.

She’d barely stepped inside the gates when Dr. Pepper came storming out like a cannonball.

He looked just the way she remembered, still that mischievous old man, though his hair was definitely whiter now.

Emmy hurried over. “Dr. Pepper.”

Dominic came to a sudden stop, his expression stony, refusing to even look at her.

He turned away, scanning the garden, and then snapped at a nearby attendant.

“Look at these flowers! And the grass! What have you all done to them? Didn’t bother watering, did you?”

The attendant ducked his head. “Professor, it’s just that the sun’s been intense lately, but the forecast says it’ll rain tomorrow—”

“Are you dense?” Dominic scowled, his voice booming. “You’re waiting for rain? What if it never comes? If these plants dry up and die, is that on you?”

Emmy couldn’t help but smile a little. She could tell he wasn’t really talking about the plants.

She saw him searching for something, so she set down her bag and quickly snatched up the watering can from the corner, offering it to him.

Dominic glanced at her but ignored the can.

Emmy caught on right away. She hugged the watering can and started watering the wilted plants herself, speaking up as she did.

“Dr. Pepper, I’m sorry. I was young and didn’t know any better. I let you down. Would you please give me another chance to make it up to you?”

Dominic looked at the attendant. “Is this young lady talking to me?”
