Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 1671

Ever since establishing Agri-Tech Ventures, Sylvia had been so busy her feet barely touched the ground. Every morning, she was always the first to arrive at the office. Late at night, she was the last one to leave. More often than not, she worked overtime until two or three in the morning and simply made do by sleeping in her office. Even a workaholic like Krystina was alarmed by her reckless, life risking attitude. Krystina would drop by her office every few days, urging her to relax a little and not work herself into the ground.

During this time, Sylvia's only moment of relaxation had been her visit to Emmy at the postpartum retreat. She had been in a great mood that day. Being able to see her best friend amidst her chaotic schedule made her feel like she had finally caught a breath of fresh air and come back to life. What she had not expected, however, was running into the person she least wanted to see at the retreat. Steve.

His appearance instantly ruined her good mood. Even though she managed to maintain a smile on her face later, comforted by her best friend, she simply could not suppress the deep seated irritation bubbling in her heart.

That night, when she returned home, she poured herself a glass of red wine. Mildly buzzed, she slumped onto the sofa, her mind uncontrollably running wild. Was a conceited, arrogant young master from a wealthy family like Steve really pursuing her? Sure, their mutual friends claimed he was. Even Mr. Nelson had asked her if there was still a chance for her and Steve. But to Sylvia, it did not feel like a pursuit at all. It felt more like another one of Steve's twisted pranks.

Who was Steve, anyway? The scion of the wealthy Michell family, a top tier lawyer in the legal world. The woman he would eventually marry was bound to be a full time wife who excelled at supporting her husband and raising children, definitely not a woman like her who had clawed her way up from the bottom and was entirely devoted to her career. Furthermore, all that messy drama before the holidays had started because of him. Over the past half a year, Steve had occasionally popped up to make his presence known, but in her eyes, it just looked like he was standing on his high horse, treating her like a joke. He might even be trying to drive a wedge between her and her best friend, Abriella. After all, Abriella was the woman Steve had once deeply loved. In Sylvia's view, his arguments with Abriella were nothing more than acts of petty revenge born from unrequited love. If she was forced to choose between him and her best friend, Sylvia would pick her best friend without hesitation.

Therefore, no matter how she analyzed it, anything between her and Steve was impossible. She would not forgive the pain he had caused her. And he could not possibly fall for a boring workaholic like her. The only thing she could do now was stay as far away from that man as possible.

With her thoughts tangled like a ball of messy yarn, Sylvia fell asleep on the sofa in a groggy daze. Perhaps it was because overthinking had drained too much of her mental energy, combined with the fact that she had slept on the sofa without a blanket just as the early winter weather was turning cold. The consequences hit her swiftly. When she woke up the next morning, she had a mild fever. The thought of an important company meeting that morning forced her to drag herself up. She swallowed an antibiotic and headed out the door.

However, by the time evening rolled around, the medication had worn off, and her fever surged back with a vengeance. The company was currently rushing to meet the deadline for the Westside Plant project, and everyone was running themselves ragged. Even her assistant was sprinting between departments with arms full of documents.

Sylvia sat at her desk, feeling her vision begin to blur. But at a critical juncture like this, even as the company's president, she did not want to bother a single subordinate who was currently working their hearts out for the firm. She dry swallowed two more fever pills and forced herself to keep working.
