Steve furrowed his brows deeply, intense emotions churning violently in his eyes. Seeing Sylvia's absolute determination to sever all ties with him, an indescribable agony pierced his heart.
Standing by the bed and listening to their exchange, Abriella's brain finally caught up to the situation. Her eyes widened as she pointed a shaking finger at Steve, then at Sylvia. "You two... you actually knew each other?" Realization struck her as she remembered Ella's earlier demand. Her voice completely cracked. "Wait! Did you two... were you two actually married?!"
An eerie silence fell over the hospital room once again. Neither of them spoke a word. Steve's frown deepened, his jawline locked in rigid tension.
Suspicious, Abriella shot a glare at Steve before turning her intense gaze back to Sylvia. "Sylvia, are you hiding a massive secret from me? We are practically sisters, and you kept something this huge from me?"
Watching Abriella look ready to explode, Sylvia let out a long, helpless sigh. She knew there was no hiding the truth today. "Abriella, I am sorry," she said weakly, yet her words were perfectly clear. "We... were married five years ago. We divorced two years ago."
Those words fell lightly from her lips, but they detonated like a massive bomb inside Abriella's head. Her eyes bulged so wide they looked ready to pop out, and her jaw dropped low enough to fit a whole egg. "What?! You were married five years ago?!"
She simply could not believe her ears. After recovering from the sheer shock, Abriella whipped her head around, glaring fiercely at the man in the wheelchair. Steve lowered his eyes, seemingly unable to meet her furious gaze. Seeing him act so guilty completely ignited the explosive temper inside her.
