James paused, instantly sensing the drop in her mood. Without saying a word, he quickly handed the prepared bottles to the two eager toddlers waiting in the crib. Then, he grabbed another empty baby bottle.
Emmy watched him in confusion as he poured fresh milk into the bottle and placed it in the bottle warmer for a moment. Once it was comfortably warm, he walked back and presented it to her. "Here you go. The biggest baby in our house needs to drink her milk and go to bed early too."
Emmy's face flushed a brilliant, burning red. She stared at the nipple of the baby bottle thrust toward her lips, completely overwhelmed with embarrassment. "Who are you calling a big baby? I am not drinking from that!"
She reached out to shove it away, but James firmly pressed the bottle into her hands, leaving no room for argument. "It is just hot milk. This bottle has a direct-drink straw, so you can drink lying down without swallowing air. Just take it."
Emmy clutched the warm bottle as if it were a hot potato. "I still shouldn't be using a baby bottle. I am a grown woman..." she muttered, her entire being rejecting the idea.
James watched her awkward, flustered expression, noting with satisfaction that she had already snapped out of her depressive guilt. The amusement in his eyes deepened into a wicked gleam. He leaned in close, his voice dropping into a low, seductive purr right by her ear. "Don't want to drink it like this? Well... we could always try a different method."
Before Emmy could even process his words, James snatched the bottle back and took a large gulp himself. In the next second, under Emmy's shocked gaze, he cupped the back of her head, leaned down, and pressed his lips firmly against hers. The warm, rich milk flowed over their intertwined tongues, forcefully passed into her mouth.
Emmy's eyes widened in utter disbelief. In that breath-stealing moment, the sweet taste of milk exploded across her palate, mingling with his intoxicating, masculine scent until it made her head spin.
Over in the crib, the twins were happily chugging their own milk. Seeing their parents kissing, their large, innocent eyes went perfectly round. Joey even paused his drinking, watching them with intense curiosity. Dolly simply let out a carefree, bubbling giggle, kicking her little feet in the air.
Sitting at the foot of the bed, James quietly watched the scene unfold. Under the warm, dim glow of the nightlight lay the woman he loved more than life itself, surrounded by their two beautiful children. This was the exact picture he had fought to protect through countless brushes with death. Just watching them made his eyes grow inexplicably hot.
Unable to resist, he pulled out his phone and snapped a photo of the three of them nestled in the bed. The perfect moment was immortalized.
Sensing his gaze, Emmy suddenly looked up, her eyes meeting his. No words were needed. They simply smiled at each other, the air around them practically shimmering with unspoken happiness.
James tucked his phone away and walked over to her side. Leaning down, he pressed a tender kiss to Emmy's smooth forehead, followed by a soft kiss on each of his children's brows. Reluctant to shatter the warm, serene atmosphere, they simply stayed there, watching the twins sleep for a long while. Once the little ones were completely out, James gently took Emmy's hand, and they tiptoed out of the room together.
