Danny was already losing his cool. “Mr. Lincoln, you have to be the judge here! The whole company is gossiping, and that’s on Mr. Carter for not keeping people in line! People can say whatever they want, but if I haven’t done anything wrong, why should I care? Why should I be the one to put up with all this? I want to go back to my original position.”
Krystina’s face was practically green with frustration. This guy was unbelievable, always pushing his luck. Under the table, she reached over and pinched Danny’s thigh hard, hoping he’d get the message. Just shut up already. Why can’t you save your complaints for when we’re alone? Why make a scene in front of the chairman?
To her horror, Danny let out a ridiculously dramatic yelp. “Ow!” He grabbed his thigh and jumped up, looking like he was in real pain. He turned to Emmy and complained loudly, “Mr. Lincoln, did you see that? Mr. Carter just pinched me! She’s threatening me, right in front of you! This is totally workplace bullying! She doesn’t want me talking about how she treats me at the office! I can’t take this anymore. I should file for workman’s comp!”
Krystina was so stunned she couldn’t even reply. She stared at Danny’s theatrics, completely at a loss. Was this really the same calm, poised assistant who always kept his cool in meetings? Now he looked like a total troublemaker.
Emmy just rubbed her temples, half amused, half helpless. But she couldn’t hide the smile in her eyes. Danny was always so steady, but apparently, this was the one situation where he let himself act like a total kid.
She decided to play along, trying to keep the peace. “Alright, Krystina. For the sake of work, let Danny move back in when you get home. And stop worrying about what people might say. You can’t control their mouths anyway.”
Danny immediately sat up straight, flashing Krystina a victorious grin. His face said it all: See? Mr. Lincoln is on my side.
