“Sister-in-law, do you really have the heart to watch us both go down in flames?”
“If he gives back all his shares at the board meeting tomorrow, that means he’s giving up his claim to Nelson Corporation.”
“When that happens, the whole company will belong to Brian and Martha.”
Tyler let out a short, cold laugh. “You know what Brian’s like. He always makes sure to wipe out any threats completely.”
“Once James loses his shares, do you honestly think Brian will just let his biggest rival walk away?”
“At that point, it won’t just be James in trouble. You’ll be at risk too.”
Emmy turned slowly. The night breeze tossed her short hair around her face, but it couldn’t chill the icy look in her eyes.
She stared at Tyler, her voice colder than ever.
“Tyler, I’ll say it again. You’re talking to the wrong person.”
“If you want James to back off, go talk to him. Don’t stand here and threaten a woman.”
She was unmoved, her expression calm and unshaken.
Tyler’s fingers clenched tight on his knees. A wave of helplessness hit him.
He’d thought if he spelled out the consequences, Emmy would panic and beg James to stop. But she was even more collected than he’d imagined, and way harder to sway.
And the truth was, he’d already tried going to James.
But that maniac wouldn’t listen to anything he said.
James used to have his sights set on Brian and Martha. Lately, though, his actions made it clear he might know the truth about what happened to Jamie all those years ago.
Now, that gun of revenge was pointed straight at Tyler’s own head.
If he couldn’t fix this, tomorrow he might lose every share he had in Nelson Corporation.
Tyler forced down his irritation and pasted a smile back on his face.
“Sister-in-law, are you blaming me?”
He softened his voice, pretending to give in.
“Is it because my company, Smart Health, launched that AI prosthetic and took over Sync’s market share?”
Emmy narrowed her eyes, silent.
Tyler rushed to explain.
