Vespera was startled. Fawn really did move on quickly.
Earlier, Fawn had been thinking about the past. Now, she wanted to know who Vespera was. It sounded like she thought Vespera came from an affluent family.
"Madam, we should remain mysterious for the sake of the masquerade ball. So…" Vespera smiled. "I can't answer your question."
Upon hearing Vespera, Fawn couldn't help but scrutinize her. Although the mask covered the area around her eyes and half of her nose, she could still look at the eyes, lips, and lower half of her face.
Vespera's side profile resembled Mirabelle's, but she was far more beautiful. She spoke gently, seemed elegant, and behaved well.
Fawn was dismayed that she couldn't learn about Vespera's true identity. Perhaps Dominic might like someone like Vespera and move on from that secretary of his.
Fawn was determined to learn which family Vespera was from.
Oh, right! I forgot." She smiled. "Oh, Mrs. Dawson! I wonder why she decided to change things up into a masquerade ball."
"Me too," Vespera added. Secretly, she knew it was because Emily had set up a trap for Fawn. There might be some kind of psychedelics hidden in the golden mask that could be absorbed through the skin.
Vespera had no idea why Emily had set a trap for Fawn. Why, of all people at the ball, was Fawn her target?
Although Vespera didn't know why, she knew Emily had no intention of stopping her plans. She wondered if she should remind Fawn to leave as soon as possible.
Vespera and Fawn entered the banquet hall, each lost in their own thoughts.
As they entered, the guests near the door subconsciously looked toward them.
The two main characters who got into a fight earlier—One never returned, and the other came back with another guest.
Interesting.
One of the guests who looked over was Felicia. In order to confirm her suspicion, she intentionally remained near the door after Vespera went out. That way, she could secretly get a glimpse of her once she returned.
Now that Felicia had seen clearly, she knew those alluring eyes belonged to Vespera. Although they never got along, they had been in-laws for the past four years.
Felicia still knew Vespera well enough. Yet she never expected her to show up at the ball today.
