"That wasn't mentioned." Yasmine shook her head with a slight frown.
Rebecca was only there for fun. Mask or no mask, she probably had no idea who most of the attendees were.
Seeing how distracted Yasmine and Vespera were, she whispered, "What's up? Is something wrong with this ball?"
Yasmine thought about it. She relaxed before saying with a smile, "I've dealt with Mrs. Dawson very often. She's a great philanthropist.
"Whether it's her or her husband, both are highly regarded in society and aren't running some shady pyramid scheme. Although things are a little strange today, there's no need to be nervous."
Vespera added, "While what you said makes sense, you never really know someone. Since we're both suspicious, we should be on our guard."
Yasmine exclaimed, "Oh, look around! This place is full of wealthy socialites. Everyone in Halewick knows this place belongs to Mrs. Dawson. If she was up to something, surely she'd pick somewhere more remote—like a place in the mountains."
"It's better to be on our guard." Vespera insisted on remaining cautious. She took one look at the wine in Rebecca's hand and reached for it. She even put her own glass aside.
Yasmine gazed at Vespera in silence. Wasn't that a bit much? Would Emily serve poisoned drinks in the hall?
Did Vespera suspect that Emily wanted to poison everyone in the banquet hall? Was Vespera out of her mind?
Although Yasmine was secretly making fun of Vespera, she stared at the wine glass as she was about to take a sip. Despite having taken a sip earlier, she decided not to drink anymore.
While Yasmine, Vespera, and Rebecca were chatting earlier, a few other guests gradually began to arrive.
All of them were dressed to the nines, looking glamorous in their jewelry. The young women looked radiant and gorgeous, and even the older ladies exuded elegance.
Since all the attendees were wearing masks and donned in makeup, it was hard to tell who was who.
"Do you think Mrs. Dawson realized some of the women here are sworn enemies, so she decided to add a last-minute twist and make everyone wear masks?" Rebecca glanced at Felicia. "Such as you and that old cougar."
Vespera couldn't help but smile. That was true—perhaps there were others like her and Felicia, who had an awkward relationship with one another.
The other guests might be love rivals, business competitors, or weren't personally invited by Emily, such as plus-ones. Emily probably did not pay attention to that while planning the ball and only realized the issue once guests started arriving today. That was possible as well.
Yasmine only caught onto a certain phrase. "How do you know she's an old cougar?"
