Fawn's face went pale.
She didn't want to choose either of those options.
"I'll give you ten minutes to think about it. If you don't have an answer by then, I'll choose for you," Dominic said politely, his tone civil.
But the cold, piercing look in his eyes made him feel less like a son and more like an exam proctor holding a ticking timer.
"You—! You're forcing me!" Fawn snapped, furious.
"Mom, let's not pretend this isn't fair. Let me break it down for you. When I said I didn't want Nancy to come back, you vouched for her. You promised she wouldn't cause trouble and mess with my girlfriend.
"You told me her return had nothing to do with me and that it had been planned long ago. I trusted you. I didn't stop you, right?" Dominic replied calmly.
Fawn could only nod. "Mmhmm…"
"Right. I gave you trust and respect. And just in case, I made it very clear that if she caused any drama, she'd be out of Halewick for good. You didn't object. So, wouldn't you say that counts as an agreement?"
Fawn's eyes widened. "What agreement? I never—"
"Don't try to play dumb. I have proof."
Dominic pulled out his phone and played a voice recording, the conversation from that day in the upstairs garden between the two of them.
Fawn was stunned.
He… He'd recorded her? She was his mother, for god's sake.
Nancy, watching Fawn falter, looked desperately at Samuel, silently begging him to say something.
Samuel just kept shaking his head.
Damn. Dominic had laid the trap from the very beginning. No wonder he'd seemed so easygoing that day, brushing things off like they were nothing. He'd been planning this moment.
Dominic turned off the recording.
"The Reid family has always prided itself on fairness and grace. I gave you grace and fairness, now it's your turn. Six minutes left. Make your choice."
Fawn couldn't even form words.
She wasn't the type to throw tantrums, and she knew if she acted like a shameless parent now, the image she'd built in Dominic's heart might shatter completely.
Her chest tightened. She felt like she was being forced off a cliff.
Samuel, seeing how distressed she was, tried to step in. "Dominic, maybe give it some time. Wait until after your trip and talk it through. It's not like—"
"No."
Dominic's voice was cold and firm. He glanced at his watch, then looked back at Fawn. "Mom, you have five minutes left."
