Shanley knew exactly what Jimmie was talking about. He opened his mouth to speak but felt a wave of helplessness. “If I told you that Juniper tried to force herself on me and failed, would you believe me?”

“What?” Jimmie looked as if he’d heard the most absurd thing in the world and let out a cold laugh. “My sister forced herself on you? Does she look like that kind of person to you?”

Shanley glanced back at the girl, who was nibbling on pistachios while stealing glances at him. Oh, she absolutely was. She had initiated it every single time. He was being wrongly accused.

“You’d better take it easy,” Jimmie said, clapping Shanley on the shoulder, his voice a low growl. “If Ebony Fox saw that, she’d tear you limb from limb.”

Shanley silently swallowed the bitter pill. If he actually snitched, he risked making Juniper angry, and then all his future 'benefits' would be gone.

After the others left, Shanley returned to Juniper’s side. Seeing her with her head down, focused on her snack, he raised an eyebrow with a slight smile. “You’re lucky Ebony didn’t see that.”

“Tsk.” Juniper tossed a pistachio shell onto the plate and crossed her arms, her clear eyes meeting his. “I may have initiated it, but that doesn’t give you the right to bite me.”

“And you didn’t bite me?” Shanley laughed helplessly. He unbuttoned his shirt, revealing teeth marks on both of his collarbones. Her handiwork.

“I don’t remember.” Juniper looked dazed for a few seconds as flashes of the previous night returned, making her cheeks burn. “I’m so tired. I’m going to go lie down, too.”

Shanley stood rooted to the spot, the smile on his face growing wider. He was discovering that this girl had been getting bolder and bolder recently. Fine. He’d let her be bold for another couple of years. He’d have plenty of time to ‘discipline’ her later.
