“Ms. Quill, be careful!” Channing was so frightened he immediately sprinted after her, almost forgetting to disguise his voice.
“???”
A few staff members they passed on the way stared at him in confusion, wondering why this old man was practically flying down the hall.
“Ahem—”
Realizing he had moved far too nimbly, Channing forced himself to slow his pace to a shuffle.
—
In the VIP lounge.
Juniper and Shanley were sitting on the sofa, casually chatting to pass the time.
They were talking about the casino business, noting how well it was doing and the fortune it must be raking in.
Juniper added, “If I’d known, I would’ve let Coralie join us at the poker table during the holidays.”
Everyone else they played with had been totally broke.
By the end, they were losing so badly they refused to even pull out their wallets.
Zero sportsmanship.
Shanley laughed, looking at her. “How about we go hit the tables for a few rounds?”
They might even win a nice little chunk of change.
“Look at you, trying to clean out your own family’s casino,” Juniper said, poking his chest. She lowered her voice. “Don’t fleece Coralie. Let’s go empty someone else’s pockets.”
Before coming here, she had done her research. There was a rival casino that constantly gave Coralie a hard time.
It was the perfect opportunity for them to go check it out and see what the deal was!
“Whatever you say!”
Shanley grabbed his wife’s hand, his heart fluttering. He leaned in for a kiss.
“Juniper!!!”
The door suddenly burst open, and Coralie sprinted inside.
The moment she saw her sister, she threw her arms wide open, thrilled beyond belief. “Hug, hug, hug, I need a hug!”
Unfortunately, Shanley was sitting right in the middle, making a hug extremely inconvenient.
Coralie skidded to a halt, staring at Shanley with utter confusion.
Before Shanley could even react to Coralie’s blank stare, he heard Juniper say, “Move over. You’re in the way.”
