Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1949

Coralie sat there in perfect stillness. Aside from the wind rustling through the leaves, there was total silence.

An indeterminate amount of time passed.

Then, she heard someone calling her name. "Ms. Quill."

Coralie looked down the hillside and saw Odom, dressed sharply in a bespoke suit, waving at her with a gentle smile.

Looking at his silhouette and height, which were uncannily similar to Channing's, Coralie experienced a fleeting moment of delusion, almost as if she were looking at an older version of Channing.

Even though their faces were entirely different...

She was truly losing her mind.

"How did you know I was here?" Coralie stood up, quickly composing herself before asking.

"There's an urgent document that requires your signature. Your phone was turned off, and when I couldn't reach you, I had to track your car's GPS."

Odom pulled out a folder, bowing his head apologetically. "I'm so sorry to intrude on you like this, Ms. Quill."

"It's fine."

Coralie pulled out her phone and realized it had died at some point.

The document Odom brought was indeed highly time-sensitive.

"My fault. I shouldn't have made you run all the way up here," Coralie said quietly, handing the signed paperwork back. "You can head back now."

"Aren't you leaving too, Miss?" Odom cast a concerned glance at the sky. "The forecast predicted a massive downpour. If we don't head down soon, it could get dangerous."

Coralie looked up. Dark, heavy clouds had rolled in, blanketing the sky in a threatening gray. She hadn't even noticed.

"Let's go then." Coralie pursed her lips and began the descent.

"The path is slippery, Miss. Please, take my arm."

Odom offered his hand, and Coralie gently rested her fingers against his wrist.

The slope was indeed steep. Terrified of tripping and hurting the baby, Coralie took slow, cautious steps.

Matching her measured pace, Odom asked softly, "Miss, the person resting up there..."

"One of the most important people to ever be in my life."

Coralie forced a bitter, heartbreaking smile.

But now...her life had made room for other incredibly important people too.
