As if reacting to her father's voice, Coralie's belly suddenly shifted with a gentle kick.
Channing's eyes widened in sheer delight, his smile stretching uncontrollably across his face.
The baby definitely preferred Dad, right?
But honestly, he just wished Mom could prefer Dad a little bit more, too.
——
At Westshore Casino.
Coralie sat in her office, flipping through a stack of headshots the manager had brought her.
These were the candidates he had scouted for Governor Rhodes.
Ranging from eighteen to forty-eight years old. Older, younger...
Sunny boys, brooding bad boys, the stoic types, the funny ones, the sweet clingy ones...
Every conceivable demographic was represented.
Coralie felt like an ancient emperor selecting consorts for his harem. The sheer volume was making her dizzy.
"Are you satisfied with the selection, Ms. Quill?" the manager asked eagerly. "I did some digging, and Rocco definitely has a close relationship with the minister. Bidding closes in less than a week. We need to move fast."
Coralie frowned, keeping her voice low. "Did you manage to track down Governor Rhodes's schedule?"
"I did."
The manager promptly produced an itinerary and pointed to the very last entry. "In three days, the Governor is hosting a foreign delegation at the Celestial Commerce Center here in Caelus."
"He will absolutely be there in person."
"Someone on the inside is willing to sell us an invitation, but it's going to cost a fortune."
"Money is not an issue." Coralie pulled a bank card from her purse, the PIN scribbled on the back. "I'm leaving this entirely in your hands. Get it done."
"I won't let you down." The manager pocketed the card, pausing right before the door. "Boss, what do you think of the 'gifts' I picked out?"
Gifts?
Coralie quickly realized he meant the male companions meant for Governor Rhodes.
"These two are decent enough!" Coralie pondered for a few seconds before tapping the top two photos. "Have them come with me on the day of the event!"
These two were at least easy on the eyes!
The manager glanced down at the men Coralie had selected.
Well, well.
Their facial features and general vibe were strikingly similar to Mr. Irving.
See?
He always knew Ms. Quill's heart already belonged to Mr. Irving.
If Mr. Irving just pushed a little harder, he'd secure that official boyfriend title in no time.
——
After the manager left.
Odom came in for his routine daily briefing, casually setting a bowl of freshly washed grapes on her desk.
