"Governor, if we move against Zachary, how will we explain it to Conrad?" Jude reminded him, his voice shaking.

"Explain what?"

Channing's voice was slow, his deep eyes colder than a pitch-black winter night. "If he can't bear to lose Zachary, he can go to the grave with him."
