"Isn't he just a kept man?"
"I wonder how much Ms. Quill spends on him every day."
...
Coralie stared at her watch, frowning in silence.
—
The engagement party began.
After a brief ceremony, the dinner officially commenced.
Juniper led Luella over to Theia and Silas.
Coincidentally, Jimmie was also there.
"Mom, Dad, this is the person I told you about," Juniper introduced her earnestly. "Luella. She's my ride-or-die, family by choice."
"So you're the one who saved our Juniper's life," Theia smiled, overflowing with gratitude. "Luella, thank you so much."
"You're welcome." Luella maintained a polite smile. As she answered, her eyes met Jimmie's meaningful gaze.
*Ahem.*
She tried to ignore it, blurting out, "I really envy Juniper for having such a wonderful family."
"From now on, we're your family too."
"Really? Theia!" Luella eagerly spoke up, then looked at Silas, "Silas!"
"?"
Silas was chatting with the in-laws and barely registered what happened. "Huh?"
Theia patted Luella's arm, thinking the kid was charmingly outgoing, and laughed, "Come over and hang out with us often!"
"I definitely will!" Luella was genuinely thrilled, answering with resounding enthusiasm.
"Heh," Jimmie let out a discordant chuckle from the side. "How amusing."
"?"
Luella picked up two glasses of champagne, walked up to Jimmie, and raised an eyebrow with a light smirk. "Jimmie?"
Jimmie instinctively wanted to snap back, but just as he moved, Theia reminded him, "Take it. You've got another buddy to look out for now."
Forced to take the glass, Jimmie clinked it against hers, lowering his voice. "You'd better behave yourself around here."
"Oh no, Jimmie's so mean. I'm terrified," Luella retorted with a grin.
"You—"
"Gotta go, time to toast the rest of the gang," Luella knew when to quit and quickly vanished into the crowd.
"Look at the kind of people you bring home," Jimmie grumbled, downing several glasses of wine in frustration.
"Don't be mean to Luella."
"Nothing!" Jimmie denied it, turning to leave.
*Is that so?*
Juniper took a sip from her glass, lost in thought.
He was definitely looking at Luella.
A short while later.
Juniper suddenly felt something was off. Why was she getting dizzier with every sip of this drink?
Her cheeks flushed, her legs grew weak, and she could barely stand.
The next second.
She swayed and fell into a broad, warm embrace.
"Why are you drinking?"
Shanley wrapped his arm around her waist, his voice full of concern.
"Drinking?" Juniper shook her head, wrapping her arms around his neck, her tone muffled. "My head is spinning."
"I'm taking you back to rest."
The engagement party was wrapping up. After informing their families, Shanley scooped her up in his arms and left.
Along the way, the young woman was far from well-behaved. Shanley's heart raced, and he nearly caused a car accident a few times.
