Chapter 91
Lucien knew that Calista’s act of appeasement might not have come willingly, but it pleased him
all the same.
Calista stood on her tiptoes, awkward yet careful as she shaved his beard.
They’d done this before, but something had changed. The emotions between them now were nothing like they once were.
Bracing herself against his shoulders, she meticulously cleaned around his lips, her movements slow and deliberate.
Lucien watched her in silence, his gaze radiating a quiet warmth that felt almost disarming. He seemed to be unaware of the tenderness and intimacy that softened his eyes, an unspoken allure that was impossible to ignore.
“There’s nothing left for you to do at the company. I’ll have the finance department settle your
accounts.”
“Should I be thanking you, Mr. Fenwick?”
There was truly nothing Calista could do. After all, she meant nothing to him.
Avoiding his eyes, Calista turned away. She was too tired to dwell on it and told herself to just leave things as they were.
After shaving his beard, Calista set the razor down and abruptly turned to leave.
But in the next second, he pulled her into a fierce embrace, his lips crashing against hers in an overwhelming kiss.
A surge of passion swept through her, and Calista gave in completely, melting into his embrace.
That familiar sandalwood scent hit her again, flooding her senses and wiping every coherent thought from her mind.
They were on the brink of losing control when a voice suddenly rang out from downstairs.
“Lucien!”
It was Ophelia.
The sound snapped Calista back to reality.
In that instant, no surge of desire could hold its weight.
Shame flooded Calista, and she tossed the razor into the sink without a second thought.
