Chapter 100
“Calista, what are you standing around for? Say hello to Mr. Fenwick!”
Zelda’s hand landed on Calista’s shoulder, the gentle pressure laced with an unspoken message.
When Calista met the face across from her, she forced herself to dismiss the swirl of irrational thoughts.
Zelda was the project department manager, and if she was willing to speak up for Calista in front of the CEO, then Calista ought to feel grateful.
That was just how things worked in the corporate world.
On the surface, everyone worked together to get the project done. But behind the scenes, they were all angling for the biggest slice of the pie, hoping for a promotion and a raise.
Calista lowered her gaze, silent for a moment before finally speaking in a neutral tone.
“Hello, Mr. Fenwick.” She extended her hand.
Lucien glanced at it but made no move to shake it.
They stood locked in an awkward stalemate until Zelda stepped in to ease the tension.
Calista slowly withdrew her hand.
“Mr. Fenwick, you likely haven’t met Calista yet. She’s exceptionally capable. In just a few days, she’s already organized all our legacy data and played a key role in securing the project with Mr. Hollings. So, if I may be so bold, I’d like to request a special favor. Let’s speed up her confirmation.”
Zelda’s public endorsement wasn’t for Calista’s benefit, of course. Rather, it was a strategic move to silence potential dissent by offering a perk.
Calista understood the situation. Since someone else had already taken the credit, there was no point in arguing.
