Calista responded wearily, sniffling softly. 

But Atrid didn’t seem to believe her. 

“My men have been stationed outside the hospital, and they didn’t see you leave. Cali, Elia is still not feeling well. This is the perfect chance for you two to mend your relationship. You’d better make good use of the opportunity, got it?” 

Listening to her unnaturally sweet tone, Calista was certain Lucien had to be standing nearby. Otherwise, Atrid would have already scolded her outright. 

“I’m not feeling well. I don’t want to go over.” Calista refused. 

Astrid let out a forced laugh, as if trying to hide the awkwardness of being turned down. She glanced up at Lucien, then stepped out with her phone in hand. 

“I’m telling you to come here right now. Otherwise, I’ll have the hospital cut off your brother’s medication. I heard his condition is quite difficult to treat. If you don’t do as I say, your family might end up with another disabled person to care for. 

“Your family is already struggling. Cali, I’m sure you wouldn’t want to add to their burden, would you?” Astrid’s words were laced 

with threat. 

Astrid was always great at putting up a facade, but now, her true colors were finally showing. 

Calista was genuinely exhausted. She gave a muffled response and simply ended the call. After taking a moment to collect herself, she headed to Ophelia’s ward. 

She didn’t know if it was a coincidence or not, but as soon as she stepped inside, she saw Lucien and Ophelia in a seemingly intimate embrace. Lucien’s tall figure completely blocked Ophelia from view. 

About a minute later, Ophelia finally acknowledged Calista, who was standing by the door. 

“Sorry, Lucien. I tripped. Thanks for catching me.” She adjusted her clothes in a way that made it seem as though something scandalous had just happened between them. 

Compared to Ophelia’s obvious insinuations, Lucien seemed rather unbothered. 

“Take care of yourself. We’re counting on you back at the company.” 

Lucien was merely showing concern for his long–time employee. But to Calista, his comforting words were invaluable. It was something she had never received before. 

Hearing his words, Ophelia was thrilled. But before she could jump in glee, Lucien turned toward Calista and said, “Why are you just standing there. Do you not want to go home, Mrs. Fenwick?” 

Hearing him refer to Calista as Mrs. Fenwick, Ophelia’s heart clenched in pain. 

“Lucien, what are you doing? She still has to stay here and take care of me. We can keep each other company.” 

“My wife doesn’t need to take care of anyone,” Lucien responded flatly and led Calista out of the room. 

Calista was momentarily stunned. She turned to glance at Lucien. 

Wasn’t he worried about upsetting Ophelia by calling Calista that? 

She realized that Lucien was truly a mystery. As time went on, she found him more and more difficult to understand. 

It wasn’t until they reached the entrance that Calista suddenly felt a coat drape over her shoulders. 

It was Galen who had brought it over, looking visibly irritated when he approached.
