Hearing the footsteps at the door, Cassian looked up. The moment his eyes landed on Ruby's face, a hollow, deadened silence washed over his gaze.
Grandma looked over as well. "Why did you bring the baby in here? We don't want her catching anything."
Her eyes were filled with nothing but genuine concern. She didn't utter a single word of blame toward Ruby, even though she knew perfectly well that Ruby was the sole reason Cassian was currently lying in that bed.
Monica, however, was nowhere near as composed.
She stormed forward, stopping aggressively right in front of Ruby. Her eyes gleamed with venomous hatred. "Are you satisfied now, Ruby? He collapsed because of you! Are you happy with your twisted revenge?"
As she spat the words, she raised her hand, fully intending to grab Ruby by the collar.
Garrison's eyes instantly locked onto Monica's reaching fingers. He frowned sharply and stepped between them, acting as a human shield. "Miss Ashley, I suggest you watch yourself."
"Watch myself? Why would I need manners to deal with a bitch like her?" Blocked from reaching her target, Monica's rage boiled over, and she turned her irrational fury onto Garrison. "You're completely blinded by this slut! What exactly did she offer you to make you so willing to be her pathetic little dog?"
Monica had been harboring intense resentment toward Ruby since the moment they met. Whether she was lashing out for Cassian's sake or simply venting her own bitter jealousy, her words were laced with absolute filth.
Every respectable person in the room cringed at the sheer vulgarity.
Garrison's expression instantly turned lethal. He kept a sharp eye on Monica's arms, prepared to intercept any violent move she tried to make.
But Ruby simply raised a hand and gently pushed Garrison aside.

Grandma's gaze darkened slightly in realization.
She suddenly understood that her assessment of Ruby had been far too shallow.
Without anyone holding her back, Monica still didn't have the guts to challenge Ruby directly. Having lost the confrontation so miserably, she felt utterly humiliated. She spun around and threw herself dramatically at Cassian's bedside.

Monica didn't shout, but her voice was loud enough to carry clearly across the silent room.
The one who caused it... Was she not pointing a direct finger at Ruby?
