Sylas's thoughts swirled. He considered his own feelings to be glaringly obvious, but she seemed oblivious, and there was nothing he could do about it. He sighed inwardly, though his expression remained nonchalant. "So, did you get what you needed?" he asked, changing the subject, his gaze fixed on her.

Ruby didn't look at him, instead scrolling through her phone. "I did. I just sent it to Hayley and the others," she replied distractedly. Just then, a notification confirmed the image had been sent, followed by a quick "Received" from Hayley. A wave of relief washed over Ruby, and her tense posture visibly relaxed.

Sylas tilted his head, studying her seriously. "I was completely swamped back there. Dealing with those people is exhausting. And Gennifer… talking to her makes my chest feel tight." He clutched his chest dramatically, but his eyes were secretly watching her reaction.

Ruby knew exactly what he was doing, but she kept her expression neutral. "You've had a tough day," she said, patting his arm. "You should go home and get some rest."

His shoulders slumped in disappointment. "You're no fun at all," he muttered. But when he caught her cool glance, he shrank back, grumbling under his breath, "I may not have been the hero, but I worked hard. A dinner isn't too much to ask, is it?"

A smile finally touched Ruby's lips. "Fine. But only after we're done with all of this."

Though still a little let down, it was better than nothing. His spirits lifted, he spun the steering wheel. "Alright, back to the office we go."

When they pulled up to Apex Legal Partners, Ruby saw a figure waiting anxiously by the door. It was Asher. He had hit a growth spurt and was now tall enough to meet her gaze directly, even with her in heels. Despite their equal height, the boy's presence seemed much smaller.

"Ruby," he called out, jogging over to her side. "Hayley told me you have a lead on my parents' whereabouts. Is it true?"

Ruby had known why he was waiting the moment she saw him. Touched by his filial devotion, she answered gently, "We have a possible location, but we need Hayley and Fanny to analyze the information first. Try not to worry just yet."
