Burn Me Once, Burn With Me novel Chapter 375

The look on her face was so beautiful, it was almost unreal—so stunning it seemed otherworldly.

Jealousy flickered in the eyes of the women standing before her.

One in particular, a sharp-featured woman with a long face and a nasty air about her, was the first to step forward.

Without warning, she grabbed a fistful of Ruby’s hair and yanked her head back, forcing her to look up in pain.

“So, this is the pretty face you used to snag Mr. Veyne, huh?”

Her voice dripped with malice, her long, manicured nails scraping across Ruby’s scalp.

Fear and panic prickled beneath Ruby’s skin.

A single, terrified tear slid down the corner of Ruby’s eye.

Smack—

The slap was vicious, echoing through the cell block. All the usual noise of the prison vanished in an instant.

“Crying, are we? There aren’t any men here for you to seduce with those little tricks, you know. Who do you think you’re fooling?”

The woman bared her teeth in a cruel grin as she pulled a nail clipper from her pocket.

She’d saved it on purpose from her last meal.

The sight of the small, gleaming tool sent a shiver of excitement through the crowd.

“Since you love using your face to get what you want, what do you think would happen if I ruined it, huh?”

“What else? As soon as she’s out, Mr. Veyne will toss her aside like garbage!”

The others chimed in eagerly, piling on the humiliations. Their laughter was so raucous it seemed ready to shake the walls.

Ruby hung her head in shame, biting down hard on her lip to keep herself from making a sound.

Her already pale face turned even whiter.

Cassian stared at the surveillance feed, his chest so tight he could barely breathe.

He paused the footage, his fingers trembling.

Animals. They were nothing but animals.

Cassian clenched his jaw, cold fury blazing in his eyes—the kind of rage that could burn the world down.

“I kept a knife and fork from dinner—I want a turn!”

Her eyes gleamed with a feral excitement, like a wolf scenting fresh meat.

“Me too! I’ve got a scourer!”

The mob surged forward, each woman eager to join the assault.

“Please—let me go! No! Please!”

Ruby’s desperate screams for help were drowned out by the mob’s wild cheers. The scene devolved into chaos—painful, nightmarish chaos.

Bennett watched from the sidelines, goosebumps prickling his skin, heart aching with pity for everything Ruby had endured.

Cassian’s fists clenched so tightly his palms bled, the taste of copper flooding his mouth.

Knock, knock—

“Mr. Veyne, are you there?”

A woman’s anxious voice suddenly rang out.
