The drive back was quieter than usual. However, it wasn’t uncomfortable at all. In fact, it felt far too comforting with her by my side. It was already night again because we extended our stay just to lounge around and rest.

The moonlight spilled through the windshield, tracing her face in silver. Luna had fallen asleep sometime after I started driving, and she looked so peaceful that I almost forgot she had argued with me the entire morning about leaving.

I told her she could stay in Ylarc until the full moon, where it would be safer, but she wouldn’t hear

any of it. She said she didn’t want to be apart and that she’d rather be where I was, even if it meant facing uncertainty.

I wanted to tell her that she shouldn’t trust me that much. Even though I was doing everything to protect her, there were still things about me I didn’t understandthings that scared me more than I’d admit. However, she was already asleep before I could say any of that.

Her head tilted slightly, her cheek resting against the seatbelt strap, facing me. Her hair framed her face like a soft halo, and her lips were parted slightly, the faintest hint of breath leaving her. There was something so unguarded about her in that moment that it hurt to look at.

She had truly learned how to trust me, and I wasn’t sure if I could trust myself with that kind of faith.

My hands tightened on the wheel as I drove. Every now and then, I glanced at her just to make sure she was still breathing easily. It was ridiculous how many times I did that.

By the time I parked in front of the house, the clock on the dashboard told me it was almost midnight. I turned off the engine, and the sudden silence made the world feel distant. I stayed there for a moment, just staring at her.

After a while, I got out quietly, moving to her side, and opened the door. Carefully, I unbuckled her seatbelt and slid an arm under her knees and another behind her back. She shifted slightly, a faint hum escaping her lips, but she didn’t wake,

Her head fell against my shoulder, her breath warm against my neck. For a moment, I just stood thereholding her in my arms, the way I’d always wanted to, without having to worry it was allowed. Then I started walking toward the house.

Inside, the lights were dim. I nudged the door open with my shoulder and carried her to my bed. I lay her down gently, brushing a stray strand of hair away from her face. Her brows

furrowed for a second, like she was dreaming of something unpleasant, but then her expression softened again.

I straightened and exhaled quietly. I should leave now. I needed to talk to someone about what was happening and what I was feeling.

Whatever this was, it was getting too strong to contain.

I turned toward the door, careful not to make a sound. However, just as I reached for the knob, I felt her fingers wrapping around my arm.

I froze.

Luna,I whispered, glancing back.

Her eyes fluttered open slowly, heavy with sleep. There was confusion in her eyes at first before it was replaced with recognition. She looked at me like she was trying to hold onto the moment, afraid I might disappear.

You’re leaving?

I swallowed hard. Just for a bit,I said softly. I need to take care of something.”

Her hand was still gripping my arm. Before she could ask anything more, I leaned down and pressed a kiss to her forehead.

I’m going back tomorrow,” I said. I promise.”

Her lips parted slightly, like she wanted to say something, but no words came out.

So I bent down again, this time pressing a quick kiss to her cheek. Trust me,I whispered. Please.

Her eyes softened at that. She nodded faintly, as though that was all she needed. Then she leaned forward and pressed her lips to mine.

It wasn’t long; however, it still sent sparks down my body. When she pulled back, there was a small smile on her lips.

Okay,” she whispered. Be safe.

I nodded, turned toward the door again, and stepped out into the night.

I went to my car, glancing back at the house one last time before leaving. Every window was dark except for the one in her room. I could still feel the ghost of her lips on mine and how

she told me to stay safe.

I wanted to walk back inside and hold her again. No. I needed space to think, to breathe. I needed to make sure everything outside that door stayed safe so she could keep smiling like

that.

As I reached the end of the path, a shadow detached itself from the trees.

Where are you going?Tyson’s voice broke the quiet. He was leaning casually against one of the posts, his arms crossed. He must have been guarding the borders since sunset.

Away,I said simply, stopping for a moment.

His brows lifted. You’re leaving the angel?

I growled. I told you not to call her that.

He smirked. Sorry, sorry. I didn’t realize you could be this possessive.

I sighed and shook my head. I’ll be back tomorrow. Guard everyone. No one gets near the property without my permission.

Tyson nodded, the humor fading from his eyes. Got it, Alpha.”

I nodded once more before driving away again.

My heart was a mess. Every thought and every image was hers. However, beneath the chaos, there was this strange calm, a peace I hadn’t felt in years.

I tightened my grip on the steering wheel. I couldn’t do this alone anymore. I needed to talk to someone who would understand.

Someone who knew what it meant to fight for love when everything in the world was against

you.

Someone who had already survived the impossible.

Arden and Cade.

If there was anyone who could make sense of what I was feeling, it was them.
