After leaving the Yelchin Group, Starla went straight to her biotech company. Garret had lunch delivered for her, and when Tanya heard she was there, she came by to join her.
“With a brother like yours, I don’t know why you’re pushing yourself so hard,” Tanya said, watching her friend. “Your body needs rest right now.”
“I feel fine,” Starla replied honestly. “Besides, this isn’t about pushing myself. I’ve invested so much into this project, and we’re at a critical stage. I can’t just walk away now.”
Tanya, a business owner herself, understood. “You’re right,” she conceded. She knew how much a project could mean to someone, a culmination of passion and hard work. Some achievements were worth more than any amount of rest.
Tanya placed a piece of braised pork rib in Starla’s plate.
“You eat, too,” Starla said with a small smile. “These are delicious.”
“Oh, I’ve already had several,” Tanya laughed. The chefs at Cosmos Summit were truly masters of their craft. As she took another bite, her expression turned serious. “By the way, Harriet is on her way back. She lands today.”
“I know,” Starla said calmly.
“Oh, right. I forgot you have an all-powerful brother now.”
With someone like Yardley watching her back, no important piece of information would slip past her.
“Still, you need to be careful. That woman is vicious and cruel. She’ll definitely try to pull something behind the scenes.”
Publicly, Fairfax would likely protect Starla, no matter what. But in the shadows, Harriet was probably already plotting her revenge.
“Don’t worry,” Starla said, a knowing look in her eye. “She won’t have the energy for that.”
Tanya raised an eyebrow, confused.
“Just you wait and see,” Starla continued. “We’re about to find out what’s more important to her: her daughter or her fortune.”
Tanya immediately understood. Starla already had a plan in motion.
“But what about Fairfax?” she asked, her tone shifting to one of frustration. “Does he still not believe you miscarried?”
“He doesn’t believe it,” Starla confirmed, her voice devoid of emotion. “In fact, he accused me of forging it just to hurt Brinley.”
If this had happened before, she would have been heartbroken. But now, she felt nothing.
