Jeremy's words caused the Wardolf residence to fall into an eerie silence once again.
Even Melody was a little surprised.
His words were meant to humiliate Krystal.
Denvin, on the other hand, chuckled. Raising his eyebrow, he said, "Did you all hear that? Surely you can trust in Dr. Chesson's professionalism?"
Jeremy sent him an expressionless glance before saying, "I still have things to take care of at the hospital, so we'll be leaving now."
Denvin looked at Melody. "Remember to come to work on Monday. Regallo doesn't keep freeloaders around."
He had barely finished speaking when Jeremy took Melody's hand and led her out the front door.
It wasn't until he had shoved her into the car that she finally regained some of her senses.
"Are you that happy going to Regallo?" asked Jeremy as he glanced sideways, his gaze cold.
Denvin's one comment had caused her to fall into such a daze that she was still somewhat out of it.
Bypassing the question, Melody instead asked, "Didn't you say you had matters to attend to at the hospital? You can go ahead. I can go back by myself."
The moment she said so, Jeremy locked the doors with a click.
…
Back at the Wardolf residence, Andrew's expression had already been stormy when he watched Jeremy usher Melody out.
He glared at Denvin. "What crap were you spewing just now?"
Denvin looked unbothered. "The truth."
Sybil looked to Andrew, her face filled with pleas. "Mr. Wardolf, you've promised Krys that nothing would happen to Dennis. We've raised Krys all these years. Although you might say that we haven't done an amazing job, we've certainly put in the hard work. So, how can a mere adopted daughter bully her like this?
"Moreover, she's the one who occupied Krys' identity all these years, and that's why the two of you couldn't reunite."
Sybil continued in a quiet voice, "There's a saying in our hometown—there's only so much good fortune to go around. Should someone take it from you, you won't get it back."
Andrew was already displeased with Jeremy's attitude, and now, Sybil's thinly-veiled reproach only made him even more annoyed.
Even after everything they had done that day, it was still only 4:00 pm by the time they arrived home.
The moment they opened the door, Echo came bounding over, its tail wagging excitedly.
Melody bent down to pick it up, and that's when she heard Jeremy say, "It needs a bath."
She stilled, and sure enough, she saw that Echo's usually snow-white paws were a little dirty.
"I'll take it out for a grooming," she said.
Jeremy gave a slight nod in agreement.
Melody didn't want to be alone with Jeremy in the apartment anyway, so she went right back out without even putting her things down.
As the door clicked shut, a shadow flashed across Jeremy's eyes.
…
Melody took her time while she was outside, and two hours had passed by the time she went home.
