It would be impossible for Jeremy to bring up the wedding first. However, he was also aware that if either Melody, Ophelia, or even Andrew suggested it, he would agree to it.
…
Ten minutes later, Melody still hadn't received an answer from Jeremy, causing her heart to slowly sink into place.
After some thought, she sighed. "Maybe you're just used to having me around. You've always had compulsive tendencies, so maybe it feels strange because I'm suddenly not by your side anymore."
"That's not it…" Jeremy refuted instinctively.
His dark eyes flickered slightly as he reminded Melody, "I can tell whether it's compulsive tendencies or not."
He was a doctor, so he was well aware of how compulsive disorders presented.
In the end, he closed his eyes, admitting, "Melody, I don't know what my feelings for you are exactly, but our engagement… Ophelia didn't force me."
This was one of the rare times that Jeremy openly expressed himself.
Only now did Melody realize that he hadn't been forced into their engagement. It had been voluntary.
She didn't know how to react at that moment.
…
Andrew drove Denvin and Krystal home.
The car was so quiet that one could hear a pin drop.
Looking at Denvin, who was sitting in the passenger seat, he said, displeased, "Why have you been hanging around Melody so much recently?"
Denvin had drunk quite a bit that night. Though he could handle his alcohol well enough to the point where he wasn't actually drunk, he wasn't feeling that great either.
He pinched the bridge of his nose and answered nonchalantly, "She's my employee now. Am I supposed to pay her to stay at home rather than coming into work?"
Denvin snorted. "What's the point of thinking so far into the future? If you're really so capable, just remove her name from the family tree and all the official documents first. Who knows what will happen if you continue to drag it out?"
"Oh, yes." Denvin turned to look at the silent Krystal.
"I mentioned helping your adoptive father transfer hospitals last time. Have you given it some thought? I'm going on a business trip next week, so any later, and I won't be able to arrange it for you.
"You and Jeremy are coworkers, so I'm sure he'll find someone to take good care of Dennis. That way, you can get closer to him, and that'll help speed up Mr. Wardolf's plan as well."
Krystal could clearly hear the sarcasm in Denvin's words, but she could only swallow her anger for Dennis' sake.
Sybil had been practically contacting her nonstop, urging her to take care of the matter quickly.
Krystal pursed her lips and pretended to ask off-handedly, "Has Melody not given up on looking for a lawyer?"
She shot Denvin a glance. "It seems like you've done such a good job of handling the situation with the orphanage that she's now got too much time on her hands."
