Melody's tone indicated she wasn't bluffing, and her gaze was just as earnest.
She continued to stare at Jeremy, as if wanting to see his reaction, but he still had the same expression.
Looking at her, he said calmly, "You don't have evidence that ties her to this."
Melody answered, "Exactly, which is why it's such a pity."
She didn't know whether recent events had affected her, but she felt like her mindset had changed significantly. She could no longer approach everyone with the kindness she once had. Human nature was just inherently evil.
…
By the time they left the law firm, it was already noon.
Melody was about to tell Jeremy that she was going to make a move when she heard him say, "Let's see Dennis this afternoon."
"Why?"
Jeremy answered nonchalantly, "I still believe that it's not the best solution to let things escalate to this point. You realize that this means you're cutting ties with the Wardolf family, right? You need to be sure whether you can handle the consequences or not."
Harold had said that he didn't know how to communicate with Melody, so he was going to list everything out very clearly for her.
The relationship between Dennis and Krystal meant that there was no way the Wardolfs would stay out of it.
Moreover, Melody was the Wardolfs' adoptive daughter. As long as she held that identity, then public opinion would always place her a step below others.
Melody answered softly, "I know all of that, Jeremy. I'm not as stupid as you think."
Her gaze dropped as she said that, and she stared at the shadows the trees cast on the ground.
She had always known that she was adopted and that she owed a debt of gratitude to the Wardolfs. Technically, as soon as Krystal said something, she should've stopped pursuing this matter with Dennis, but she couldn't.
Melody knew in her heart exactly what she wanted. Raising her head, she looked at Jeremy, the determination obvious in her crystal clear eyes.
"Even if you say it ten more times, I'll still insist on what I'm doing now. I must get that apology, and it has to be done publicly and openly."
Melody refused to go to the hospital, but Andrew's call soon came.
He didn't say anything other than ask her to go to the Wardolf residence.
She knew full well what he was up to, but she couldn't refuse him.
…
When they arrived, Melody realized that it wasn't just Andrew. Krystal and Sybil were there too.
Andrew's gaze fell on Jeremy first. He frowned, looking a little uneasy. "Why are you here too, Jeremy?"
Jeremy's expression remained unchanged. "I took her to Zephyr Law Group earlier, so I gave her a ride here too."
It was clear to everyone that he was standing up for Melody.
Andrew's expression fell, but he quickly regained his composure. He pretended to sound surprised. "Why the sudden visit to Zephyr Law Group?"
Then, he turned to Melody, his expression stern. "Mel, have you caused trouble for Jeremy again?"
Without another word, he sat right down beside Melody and turned to look at Krystal with interest. "Your question really makes me wonder whether you're my sister.
"Dennis attempted suicide at home, yet you want someone who has absolutely nothing to do with it to take responsibility? Even blackmailers won't resort to something like this."
Denvin's words instantly froze the room, with Andrew's and Krystal's expressions particularly stony.
"Denvin! Think before you speak!" Andrew snapped angrily.
"Thinking is required from both parties, though. It's unnecessary when talking to idiots."
Truthfully, ever since Krystal returned home, she and Denvin had barely interacted. Frankly, she was cold and distant with even Andrew and Laura.
Denvin's gaze swept over Krystal, and he furrowed his brows slightly.
Laura always said that Krystal and Cheryl looked a lot alike, but he didn't see the resemblance at all.
With Denvin's sudden interruption, Andrew's attempt at a roundabout approach had now flown out the window.
He could only say sternly, "Mel, Krys isn't wrong. Have you ever thought what would happen if something happened to Dennis because you've been pressuring him? You've always been a kind child. You've been wronged this time, but you shouldn't take it too far either."
Melody clenched her fists tightly. She could tell that Andrew was threatening her, and Dennis was using the threat of death to pressure her as well.
However, before Melody could say anything, Jeremy spoke out first.
"If you think that something might happen to him again while at his current hospital, you can transfer him to Jembina Hospital. There will be professionals there to take care of him."
