Jeremy looked as calm as ever. He said coolly, "You left something in my car."

He handed her the box. Inside were pastries that Ophelia had packed from a famous bakery near Opulent Oasis.

Melody accepted it and murmured her thanks.

Jeremy glanced at her. "Ms. Thompson asked you to take them. Leaving them with me was troublesome."

Andrew caught the key point. "Mel, you were at the Chessons today?"

Jeremy answered instead, "We had something to discuss."

That one line made Andrew think. If they were discussing matters, the Chessons already treated Melody as family.

The pastries in her hands required a reservation. It proved that the Chessons valued her.

He hid his calculations behind a placid face.

Speaking again in a warm voice, he told Melody, "Since you were at the Chessons, you should get some rest. You don't need to worry about this. The place isn't great. Jeremy probably doesn't like it."

He knew Melody feared upsetting Jeremy.

He had once thought she was just trying to ingratiate herself with Jeremy and marry into a wealthy family, but later, he realized her feelings were real.
