A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 114

Andrew smiled, but his words were cold and made people uneasy.

Lydia grew anxious. The moment she saw Melody, she called out like she had spotted a lifeline. "Mel!"

He turned at the sound. A flash of frigidity crossed his eyes yet vanished behind a gentle grin. "Mel, what brings you here?"

Melody glanced at the frightened children hiding behind Lydia. "You just asked Madam Callahan to cooperate. Cooperate with what?"

Andrew's expression never changed. "The kids were poisoned, so I invited doctors to run thorough tests. I also asked the health department and some officers to inspect the food. If there is a real problem, Regallo will not ignore it."

His speech sounded perfect, yet Lydia shook her head. "The children were already examined. We have the reports. You want them to undergo an endoscopy? That's unreasonable. They're too young."

At first, Melody thought Andrew really meant to investigate, but hearing 'endoscopy' made her heart sink.

She said, "Endoscopy isn't right for them. Their symptoms are mild. Other tests will suffice. Orphy just had her stomach pumped and can't go through that again. Kids are weak."

Forcing children under ten to have scopes was going too far.

General anesthesia could harm their developing nerves, and most of these children had health issues already.

Andrew held his ground. Noticing her worry, he tried to reassure her. "Don't worry, Mel. I booked top specialists. Nothing will go wrong. I'm acting responsibly, and Regallo needs solid proof."

Melody said firmly, "They're too little. The scopes and the drugs will damage them."

She offered a compromise. "Can't we do other tests? A complete blood count shows a lot."

Melody had no good plan. She couldn't even defy Andrew alone, so how could she shield the orphanage?

She bit her lip, mind racing.

A sound came from the gate. A Maybach halted outside.

Jeremy stepped out and scanned the yard without expression. Then, he walked straight toward Melody, carrying a small box.

Andrew frowned. "Jeremy, what brings you here?"

Melody also looked at Jeremy. He had left in the opposite direction earlier.
