Henry’s gaze softened as he looked at Angel and said, “Of course.”
“I’ll be waiting! Both of you must come, okay? Don’t trick me,” Angel said.
The last time they promised to pick her up from school, her mother ended up coming alone and she was late. The incident made Angel wary.
Monique was delighted by her daughter’s cheery mood. She stroked the little girl’s hair.
Henry pulled over by the road side in front of the kindergarten.
Angel extended her little finger and gave both adults an innocent smile. She then said, “Then we should pinky swear on it.”
No one could resist the simple request made by the adorable child.
Monique hooked her little finger around her daughter’s, then turned to Henry.
Would the uppity chairman join them?
Angel’s joyous grin and the bashful expression on Monique’s face were enough to make Henry succumb. He raised his pinky and joined in with a blissful smile on his face. Warmth spread through them where their fingers joined.
“Pinky swear, no take-backs,” Monique chanted alongside Angel.
The deal was sealed.
Angel hoped that everyone respected their promise.
They got down from the car and headed for the kindergarten. Angel walked between Henry and Monique with her hands clasped by a larger adult hand.
Simon Leeds watched the family of three from the inside of the building. He smiled and left for the office.
Miss Christine snapped out of her stupor and greeted, “Good morning, Angel.”
Angel nodded.
Monique gave the teacher a smile. Miss Christine was embarrassed by her own staring and quickly said, “Miss Xander, your husband has quite the looks. You look amazing together. I can see Angel takes after the both of you.”
Miss Christine did not expect Angel’s mother to be married to a rich man. She knew the woman borrowed money from Sophia. Angel was even accused of stealing a classmate’s phone. Monique should be glad that The Whitmans let the issue slide.
Monique and Angel were always friendly and well-mannered when dealing with the kindergarten staff.
The new information changed Miss Christine’s impression of Monique.
Monique turned red at the teacher’s words.
