When They Beg I Rise (Lemira) novel Chapter 942

Lemira stared at the man lying unconscious on her sofa. "Where is your entourage? Where did everyone go?"

This morning, Stella had told her that Orion hadn't shown up because he was sick. At the time, she assumed it was just a convenient excuse.

She hadn't expected him to actually be running a fever.

It seemed the sudden seasonal flu was hitting hard. She was absolutely certain she had caught it from him.

Lemira watched him for a long moment, but he didn't stir.

She reached into his pockets, her fingertips brushing against his burning skin.

Pulling out his phone, she unlocked it with ease and scrolled to his contacts.

She had known his passcode for a while, and she knew he kept two assistants on standby at all times—one for his personal life, and one for business.

The secretary who had brought the doctor to her earlier was Julian Reed, the one who managed his personal affairs.

She tapped his name. He answered on the first ring. "Boss, what do you need?"

"I need you to come up here and take him away."

Hearing Lemira's voice, Julian hesitated for a split second. "Is something wrong with him?"

"He's sick."

Lemira hung up without another word, not in the mood for small talk.

A few minutes later, a knock echoed through the apartment.

She opened it to find Julian standing there with a private physician.

Taking a step back, she pointed toward the living room. "He's over there."

Julian hurriedly led the doctor to the sofa. One look at Orion confirmed something was very wrong. The doctor checked his temperature and sighed. "Mr. Everhart is running a dangerously high fever."

"Take him out of here," Lemira said coldly.

Turning her back on them, she retreated to the master bedroom, refusing to look at the man in her living room for another second.

Lemira tossed and turned in bed for what felt like hours. Her eyes caught the empty IV fluid bag hanging by her bedside. He had stayed right there, watching over her until her treatment was completely finished before he finally left.

The thought of his lies surged back to the forefront of her mind, twisting her chest into tight knots of resentment.

It was a good thing he hadn't dared to bring up the Everhart and Sinclair family drama earlier, or she would have lost it entirely.

When it came to her parents' deaths, she would never compromise.

She heard the faint click of the front door closing. Had they finally left?

Having slept most of the day, Lemira found herself wide awake.

She slipped out of bed and padded out to the living room, only to freeze. The man was still lying on her sofa, an IV drip now hooked up to the back of his hand.

She glared at the man unconscious on her sofa. Muttering under her breath, she walked into the bedroom, grabbed a thick blanket, and threw it over him to make sure his fever didn't get worse.

What a nightmare!

She was supposed to be the patient here.

She wanted absolutely nothing to do with him, but she couldn't just ignore the fact that he had stayed by her side when she was sick.

She made a decision. This was the absolute last time.

Dragging a heavy quilt from her closet, she wrapped herself in it and sat on the rug right next to the sofa. She set an alarm on her phone, terrified she might accidentally fall asleep and miss when his IV finished.

The hours ticked by slowly.

Orion finally fluttered his eyes open. He stared blankly at the ceiling for a moment before realizing where he was.

He remembered stumbling out of the apartment.

Turning his head, he saw Lemira dozing on the floor right beside him. A sudden, overwhelming warmth filled his chest, suffocating the ache that had been there all day.

Unable to resist, he leaned down to press a soft kiss against her forehead.

Right at that exact second, her phone alarm blared. Lemira jolted upright, her head slamming squarely into Orion's jaw.

Both of them groaned in pain.
