When Her Death Couldn't Break Him (Cecilia and Nathaniel) novel Chapter 2263

As Nathaniel cleaned up the dishes, he said, "I'm fine. I can go to the company with you."

Cecilia listened to him, then looked at him all at once, serious now.

"Nathaniel, what has actually been going on with you these past few days?"

Nathaniel paused, caught off guard for a beat, then answered, "Nothing much. Maybe I just haven't been resting well."

"You know that's not what I'm asking."

Cecilia's face tightened.

Nathaniel saw it too, but even then, the reason stayed stuck in his throat.

"Ceci, just let me stay with you a little more, okay? I really don't want to be too far away from you," Nathaniel said softly.

Seeing him like this, Cecilia thought of the things he had muttered last night while he was burning with fever, and she started to understand a little.

"Nathaniel, you really don't need to worry about me anymore. What happened with Nicholas before was an accident."

"Mm. I understand." Nathaniel's expression turned stiff.

He said he understood, but the second Cecilia walked out the door, he followed right behind her.

When Cecilia saw him doing that, she simply stopped bothering with him.

By now, the employees at the company were already used to seeing the two of them come and go together every day.

One after another, they looked at Cecilia with envy.

But Cecilia didn't think it felt all that good.

The second Nathaniel arrived, he started helping Cecilia deal with work.

At this point, he looked like he'd been reduced to a plain old employee for the entire Jamieson Group.

Who would have guessed that this so-called employee was also the chief executive of a multinational corporation?

"Ms. Smith, take a look at this. The project you approved the day before yesterday got rejected by the shareholders."

Lucille knocked, then walked in. There were dark shadows under her eyes. She clearly hadn't slept well.

Cecilia took the dossier and frowned.

"What's wrong with the mall development project?"

"The shareholders said there are already enough shopping districts around that area. If we build another one, it'll be hard to make money," Lucille said plainly.

Cecilia tapped her fingers lightly on the desk.

"Did you tell them a subway line is going to open near that project very soon?"

"I did, but those old fossils wouldn't believe it. They said it was just empty talk."
