Nicholas walked closer to Cecilia.
"Ceci, did you forget that Cassandra hired someone to harm Jon? I was merely giving her a taste of her own medicine, making her experience the pain of having her own child get hurt," he said.
Nicholas' face contorted slightly as he continued, "But who would've known that she wouldn't even care about her own child. She's truly terrifying."
Hearing him say this, Cecilia felt that he was the terrifying one. "Nicholas, you are a monster," she uttered.
She took several deep breaths and quickly walked past him, returning to the house.
Nicholas stood still. His thin frame made it look like he would collapse from a gust of wind.
After regaining his balance, he slowly walked back into the house.
In the living room, the children were playing and running around.
Cecilia sat to the side, and Elena was on the couch, occasionally playing with the children.
Upon spotting Nicholas, Elena invited him to sit down. "Nicholas, why did you go outside when you've just recovered? It's so cold."
Nicholas didn't answer and sat on the couch. His gaze was fixed on the four children, but the emotions within his eyes were inscrutable.
At that sight, Cecilia became horrified.
Elena didn't notice a single thing, saying smilingly, "Aren't they lovely? When are you going to date someone, get married, and have your own children? You don't need many, one or two is fine."
Nicholas didn't respond to her.
It didn't bother Elena, who continued, "If you really don't want to get married or have children, adoption is an option. Or, you could be nice to Nathaniel's children now, and they can take care of you when you're old."
Her words annoyed both Cecilia and Nicholas.
Even so, she still wished Nicholas would settle down soon and have a child of his own. How despicable of Cassandra to betray Nicholas.
Finding herself unable to sit still, Cecilia texted Nathaniel: Why aren't you here yet?
Nathaniel replied quickly: I'm in a meeting, and it will be a while. What's wrong?
Feeling uneasy and worried, Cecilia sent: Nothing, just come over soon.
