Everyone shifted their gaze to the door and saw Nathaniel and Cecilia walk in.
Elena had asked them to come. After all, they were Nicholas' brother and sister-in-law, so they should visit him since he was hospitalized.
Nathaniel walked straight to the bed. Looking at the emaciated, pale Nicholas, he spoke slowly. "You deserve it for mistreating your own body."
Nicholas pursed his lips. "It's none of your business."
Nathaniel naturally wouldn't mind his business. "Don't worry. Ceci and I are only here to see if you're alive or not. We have no other intentions, and we certainly won't meddle in your affairs."
When Elena heard their conversation, she immediately tugged on Nathaniel's clothes, signaling him to stop speaking callously and upsetting Nicholas.
Only then did Nathaniel stop talking.
Cecilia walked over to Nathaniel's side. Seeing that Nicholas looked like a different person, she was at a loss for words.
Nicholas looked at the couple and said impatiently, "I want to rest. Please leave."
Elena urged gently, "Nicholas, Nathaniel and Cecilia came to visit you, but you barely spoke to them. Why are you chasing them away so soon?"
Nicholas felt that Elena was treating him like a three-year-old child. "Mom, you and Dad should go too. Can you please let me be alone?"
With that, Elena couldn't insist anymore and nodded in agreement.
The four people left the ward.
While walking with Elena, Cecilia asked, "How did Nicholas become like this?"
"The doctor said it's because of excessive drinking. He's been frail since birth, and we've always taken meticulous care of him, so his health has been similar to a normal person. But now that he's grown up, he's neglected his own health," Elena replied.
After letting out a sigh, she added, "No wonder people say mothers will worry about their sons forever."
"Mom, don't worry too much. He's an adult and has to be responsible for his actions," Cecilia comforted her.
Elena nodded. "Yes, thank you, Ceci."
