Chapter 1991 Never Again
The manager let out a sigh before he finally spoke. “I don't know what got into that guy. He returned late last night, asking me for a chance. He wants to make money to repay you. I just wanted to see if he was sincere. I didn't expect this guy to actually be genuine. He dashed into a VIP room, bending over backward to please the guests. When someone offered him ten thousand to finish a bottle of liquor, he forced himself to empty twelve bottles of high-proof alcohol. And just like that, he ended up in trouble right on the spot.”
After the manager finished speaking, he reached for the black bag that had been sitting in front of him.
He then handed it to Denise. “This is what Magnus insisted I give you when he was lifted onto the stretcher. Since the guest was worried about potential complications, he gave an extra eighty thousand, making a total of two hundred thousand. Magnus said it's all yours. He also said that he would earn more money to repay you.”
Up until now, the manager had concluded that while this Magnus was not particularly virtuous, he wasn't exactly a scoundrel either.
As Denise watched the manager's hand weighed down by the hefty amount of money, she found herself at a loss for words, an indescribable feeling stirring within her.
“Okay,” she responded.
She genuinely hadn't anticipated that Magnus would act in such a way. Had she known, she wouldn't have deceived him.
However, all of this was something Sven had instructed her to do.
The light at the operating room's signboard finally went out.
Immediately, Denise turned her gaze toward the door as the doctor emerged.
In a rush, she asked, “Doctor, how is he?”
“He had a gastric bleed, but luckily he was brought in just in time. He's now out of life-threatening danger,” the doctor replied.
At last, Denise let out a sigh of relief.
Magnus was pushed out of the operating room, and when he opened his eyes, he saw Denise sitting right next to him.
He murmured in query, “Am I... not dead?”
Upon seeing him wake up, Denise couldn't help but express her anger, “You almost died.”
“Oh.” A flicker of an unusual emotion passed through Magnus' eyes. He forced a smile. “Well, that's good. Then I can continue making money for you.”
“Why would I lie to you? I never once said that my parents were deceased. I only mentioned that you took the money and they ran into trouble, almost getting kicked out of the hospital!” Denise articulated each word carefully.
Magnus looked at her, thinking she wasn't lying. For a moment, he wasn't sure how he should react.
After a while, he returned to his senses, his face radiating with a newfound glow.
“Really? That's great. That's wonderful.”
Ever since he learned of the unfortunate incident involving Denise's parents, he had been plagued by an unprecedented guilt. Now that he knew Denise's parents were unharmed, the heavy burden in his heart could finally settle.
Denise, however, pulled away from his grasp. “My parents were unharmed this time, but it was purely their luck, not your doing. You taking my money is a fact.”
Magnus kept nodding in agreement.
“Yes. I know I've made a mistake, and I won't do it again. I will work well with you from now on,” Magnus replied solemnly.
