The little guy giggled mischievously, covering his mouth as he prepared to give a full report.
Callum stood proudly on the bed and said, "I overheard Daddy telling the bodyguards to keep an eye on you when he came home tonight. So, I decided to find you myself! Mommy, you might not know this, but I've run away from home once! Sneaking out and avoiding surveillance is super easy for me. Daddy is probably fast asleep right now, and rainy nights are the best time to sneak out!"
With both hands on his hips, Callum looked incredibly proud of himself. His bright blue eyes sparkled with excitement, and his long eyelashes fluttered as he blinked, not hiding the mischievous glint in his eyes.
To Mavis, he was absolutely adorable.
"So, Mommy, can I stay here with you? I want to sleep next to you tonight."
The little one snuggled up to her, wrapping his arms around her and nuzzling his soft cheek against her arm.
There was no way Mavis could resist his adorable act!
She gently pinched his cheek, unable to resist his charm.
"Alright, you can stay. I'll call someone from the Nicholls family in the morning to take you back."
"Yay!"
Callum was thrilled to sleep with his mother for the first time, and he bounced excitedly.
"Mommy, do you know any stories? Can you sing? How about a lullaby? Can I sleep with my head on your arm?"
"Mommy…"
"Mommy…"
The little guy chattered away, calling out to Mavis every other minute.
His young, excited voice filled the room, blending with the sound of the rain outside, creating a cozy, warm atmosphere.
"I used to dream about you every night, Mommy," Callum whispered as he snuggled closer. "In my dreams, you were always holding me while I slept. I've dreamed of this so many times, and now it's really happening!"
Before returning to Svelton, she had been so anxious, worried that Callum would not recognize or want to be with her.
She had never expected that even after all these years, Mildred still treated her as part of the Nicholls family and always spoke well of her in front of Callum.
That was also why he had accepted her so readily, even relying on her.
Regardless, Mildred had been an incredibly kind and thoughtful elder.
Mavis remembered how caring Mildred was back then, and she knew she owed Mildred a heartfelt thank you when they met again.
Just as she was lost in thought, a soft knock sounded at the door.
Her first instinct was to check on Callum.
Thankfully, the sound did not disturb Callum's sleep.
