Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson) novel Chapter 1812

"I still need to discuss this with Mr. Nicholls first. The company isn't mine. I can speak on your behalf, but there are rules and procedures. If we make an exception for you, others might approach me with similar requests," Mavis explained.

Feeling her words were too harsh, she added, "Don't take it the wrong way. I'm just being upfront."

Greta nodded. "Don't worry, Mavis. If it's not possible, I won't blame you."

She buried her face in her hands, and tears started streaming down her face.

The world was filled with suffering, and Mavis had witnessed many of them.

Besides a pang of pity, she felt nothing else.

Greta's sudden interruption made Mavis lose her appetite, so she simply said, "I'm done with my lunch. Take your time."

As she left, she added, "I'll talk to Mr. Nicholls, but don't place all your hopes on me."

Greta quickly wiped her tears. "Thank you so much, Mae. I'm grateful for any help you can provide."

Leaving the cafeteria, Mavis returned to the top floor, her mind heavy with thoughts.

After hesitating, she knocked on Nathaniel's office door.

"Come in."

Mavis handed him the completed work and began, "Mr. Nicholls, I ran into Greta Stokes from the logistics department at lunch. Her mom is in the hospital and needs a lot of money for treatment. She asked if she could get an advance on a year's salary."

Nathaniel's hand paused as he flipped through the documents.

He looked up and asked, "Did you agree?"

"No, I know it's against company policy. I just promised to tell you about it."

Nathaniel smirked.

"Smart move, but don't make a habit of this. There are a lot of people with ulterior motives. I'll have Tommy verify the truth of her story. This is a one-time exception," he replied.

Mavis was stunned.

He was not mad at her?

As soon as Mavis stepped out of the building, the cold wind hit her, making her shiver.

Once in the car, Nathaniel turned up the heat, and she gradually felt warmer.

Since they started commuting together, Nathaniel would drive wherever he went instead of the driver.

Mavis always sat in the front passenger seat, a spot many women could only dream of occupying.

Thinking about it made her smile, but she quickly turned her face to the window, hoping he would not notice.

Little did she know, Nathaniel saw her every move.

He pressed the button to play music, filling the car with lively, cheerful blues.

The atmosphere became relaxed.

While the existing tension between them was unspoken, Mavis knew it was still there, just temporarily set aside.

Bringing it up again would likely cause a confrontation, but… since Nathaniel had made the first move to reconcile, Mavis did not want to continue their silent feud.
