After taking in a few fresh breaths of air, Mavis soon gave in to her drowsiness.
Before long, Mavis fell sound asleep.
When he heard the sound of her steady breathing, Nathaniel slowly opened his eyes and looked at her sleeping form.
He had never realized how stubborn she was before.
To think she had managed to ignore him for over twenty days…
The next morning, Mavis only woke up when the alarm rang.
The first thing she did upon waking was glance over at the couch, noticing that Nathaniel had already left.
She took a deep breath, feeling much at ease.
After stretching lazily, Mavis got out of bed and went through her morning routine.
Once finished, she made her way downstairs, only to find Nathaniel reading the newspaper at the dining table.
When he saw her, he gestured to the seat beside him.
''Let's have breakfast together and then head to work.''
His tone was still firm, but it was no longer as cold as it had been before.
''Okay,'' Mavis replied, sitting down.
After breakfast, Mavis settled into the passenger seat of Nathaniel's car just as she had when they first started working together, and they drove to the Nicholls Group.
As they drove past familiar streets, Mavis felt a strange sensation in her heart.
She stole a glance at Nathaniel and found him looking back at her.
The moment their eyes met, Mavis quickly looked away, her fingers nervously fidgeting with the hem of her skirt.
Nathaniel chuckled softly and shook his head but said nothing.
When they arrived at the office, Nathaniel tossed the car keys to the security guard at the entrance, and he and Mavis walked into the building together.
All the employees at the company were stunned to see Mavis and Nathaniel coming to work together, staring at them as they walked to the elevator with curious gazes.
Just as the elevator doors closed, Mavis sighed in relief.
It had been long since she had been in the office, and she felt out of touch with the company's atmosphere.
To avoid more gossip, Mavis maintained a bit of distance from Nathaniel in the elevator.
''Is there anything else you need me to do?''
''That's it.''
As he spoke, Nathaniel was still typing on his keyboard.
Mavis took the files and left the office.
Organizing documents for the CEO was a routine task for an assistant, and now that she was back, she needed to focus and get back to work.
During the past two months abroad, she had learned many things she had not been exposed to before in the country, and Nathaniel's task for her was a piece of cake compared to what she had handled recently.
After taking a few deep breaths, Mavis threw herself into the work.
The hours flew by, and before she knew it, three hours had passed without her moving from her seat, fully absorbed in her tasks.
The sound of someone tapping on the glass window broke her concentration.
Mavis looked up to see Nathaniel standing outside.
''It's time for lunch.''
