Chapter 202
A single tear slipped from Jacob’s eye.
He quickly wiped it away, took the drumstick Gabriela handed him, and stuffed it into his mouth.
With his mouth full, he sniffled, “… I’ll do whatever you say from now on…”
Listening to his tearful, muffled words, Jessica felt a swirl of conflicting emotions.
As the atmosphere in the ward grew tense, Brian suddenly said, “Take your time. I’ll take Jake out for dinner.” Without waiting for Jessica to respond, he swiftly ushered Jacob out.
Gabriela watched them disappear down the hallway, shook her head, and sighed.
“Jessi, I’m really starting to believe they can’t bear to let you go,” she remarked.
“If this is all just an act, their performance is Oscar–worthy.”
“So what?” Jessica said flatly.
Gabriela asked earnestly, “You really haven’t, not even once, thought about getting back together with him?”
“Gabriela, it never even crossed my mind. Stop testing me. Once we’re divorced, that’s it. I’m not the type to go back to an ex,” Jessica said firmly.
Brian wasn’t worth going back to, either. No matter how well he treated me now, what was done was done. It couldn’t be erased.
“Whatever you decide, I’ve always got your back,” Gabriela said with a shrug.
She let the topic drop and turned her attention to feeding Jessica.
After Jessica finished eating, she picked up an orange, about to peel it herself. Just then, Brian walked in, took the orange from her, and peeled it meticulously.
Gabriela watched in amazement as he handed the perfectly cleaned orange to Jessica.
He even grabbed a tissue and stood by, ready to catch any seeds she might spit out. Gabriela was honestly impressed.
Seeing her watching him, and noticing that Jessica didn’t need anything else for the moment, Brian peeled another orange for Gabriela.
Gabriela raised an eyebrow at the flawless fruit he handed over.
With a sarcastic remark, she said, “Mr. Atkinson, when did you get your caregiver certification? If your company ever goes under, you could start as a gold–medal caregiver.”
Unfazed by her teasing, Brian simply placed the orange by her hand and went to wipe Jessica’s hands.
His unusually gentle demeanor made Gabriela feel like the whole world had turned upside down.
Was this really Brian?
After wiping Jessica’s hands, Brian swiftly cleared the dishes, wiped down the table, put everything back in order, then took out the trash.
Gabriela watched him leave, shaking her head in disbelief.
“Who would’ve thought that just over a month ago, he was still that unapproachable and aloof?”
Jessica lowered her gaze.

Gabriela sighed, then turned to Jessica and teased, “Aren’t you going to rein him in?”
“How am I supposed to control him? I can’t kick him out, and he won’t listen to anything I say,” Jessica snapped irritably.
If she could’ve done anything about it, she would’ve sent him packing ages ago. No way she’d let him stay this long.
