When Finlay heard Analise call his name, he was a little surprised at first, but then he happily ran over and stood together with her.
He put his arms around Analise's waist a little nervously, then smiled at the camera according to the photographer's instructions, revealing white teeth.
After the photoshoot, he was so happy that his fingers were trembling faintly, and a strange excitement coursed through every fiber of his body.
His heart thumped rapidly in his chest. This meant that Analise liked him a little more, right?
Scott was not surprised that Analise chose Finlay, but of course, he was still a bit disappointed.
However, his disappointment only started for an instant. It was quickly overtaken by happiness and nervousness.
He was as nervous as Finlay now, but he did not make it apparent and kept his usual gentle, easygoing smile on his face.
Only Analise, whom he was hugging by the waist, could feel the violent beating of his heart.
Before the photographer pressed the shutter, a familiar voice sounded. "Huh? You're here to form a contract today too, Ana?"
Vera squeezed through the crowd of onlookers and took several steps forward.
The onlookers looked at Vera, then Scott, who was still holding Analise by the waist. They could already imagine the drama that was about to happen.
Analise reflexively turned to look at Vera, her attention drawn away.
The photographer pressed the shutter, capturing a shot of Analise with her head turned, looking out of frame while Scott gazed at her.
"Oh, no. I didn't get a frontal shot. I'll have to trouble you to cooperate for another photo, Ms. Chamber and Commander Hopkins," he said apologetically, turning his camera on them again. "Come on. Please look at the camera."
Analise realized that there was a male therian she had not seen yesterday following behind Vera. They were probably here to form a contract.
Vera waggled her eyebrows suggestively at Analise, then leaned into her ear. "You're pretty fast, huh, Ana? Not bad."
She bumped Analise's shoulder gently before continuing, "The two of them actually didn't compete over who would be your primary mate, unlike mine. A few days ago, my own mates had a fight over who would be my primary mate.
"I actually waited at home until they finished fighting it out and determined a winner before coming to form a contract with them at the bureau."
Analise laughed. "Quick, you say? Finlay actually wanted to make the contract yesterday, and I had to threaten him into waiting another day. I don't know why they didn't fight over being the primary mate either, though. Maybe it's because they're the more obedient sort."
She gazed at the Starstone necklace around Vera's neck. There were already three Starstones hanging from it.
"What about you?" she asked. "Are you also here to form a contract today?"
She remembered that the first time she saw Vera at the reception center, she had not owned a Starstone necklace yet.
