The notification from Scott's chip sounded, and his body tensed. Without a word, he turned toward the window and answered the call.
As the conversation dragged on, his expression grew increasingly grim. From time to time, he glanced at Analise, his gaze dark and unreadable.
A bad feeling settled in Analise's chest. There was a high chance that Vera was telling the truth. But she knew, without a doubt, that she was not a Vexoth spy.
Yet, favor was not on her side.
"What's going on? Why do you all look so serious?" Finlay's voice came from the stairs as he walked down from the second floor.
Vera instinctively took a step back, her guard up. If Analise really was a Vexoth infiltrator, then Finlay—having been calmed by her—could very well be at risk of losing control.
"Ana, Ms. Khielson, what's wrong?"
Seeing Analise remain silent while Vera eyed him warily, Finlay scratched his head in confusion.
"Nothing much," Analise finally spoke, her voice light and clear. "She just said I'm a Vexoth spy."
"You? A Vexoth spy?" Finlay burst into laughter, as if he had just heard the most ridiculous joke of the century. His laughter echoed through the room.
But as soon as Scott ended the call and walked over with a dark expression, Finlay quickly shut his mouth.
Scott stopped in front of Analise, pressing his lips into a thin line. "Ana… Are you…"
"No," Analise responded immediately and took a sip of water casually.
Scott nodded. "Alright. Finlay, you'll be temporarily held in the underground prison at Hopkins Galaxy Lodge."
"What?" Finlay was taken aback.
Equally shocked, Analise shouted, "What do you mean by that?"
Finlay was baffled, while Analise's expression turned icy with anger. She wasn't stupid. She knew exactly what Scott was implying.
"If you suspect me, just say it outright," she said coldly. "I'll go to the prison if that's what it takes. There's no need for this indirect approach."
The Vexoths were the greatest threat to the entire Interstellar Alliance. Any connection to them, whether male or female, had to be investigated with the utmost security.
"Ms. Khielson, do you have any other business here? If not, you may leave," Scott said coldly, dismissing her.
Then, he followed them out, got into his car, and drove after Finlay's vehicle toward Hopkins Galaxy Lodge.
Once they arrived, Analise walked alongside Finlay into the underground prison.
The dimly lit space was filled with prisoners. Most barely reacted to Finlay's presence. But the moment they saw Analise, their eyes lit up with shock and intrigue.
"A female? There's actually a female in the underground prison?"
"What's a female doing here?"
"She's locked up? And with a male, no less?"
