The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 1464

Pressed tightly against Alex, Danielle could clearly feel the stiffness in his muscles and the oppressive aura radiating from him.

She didn't dare turn around to check if they were being followed. She could only grip the children's hands and match Alex's pace, moving forward one agonizing step at a time.

They exited the restaurant and merged into the hotel corridor. The warm yellow lights stretched endlessly ahead. It was completely deserted, so quiet that the only sounds were their own footsteps and the rain lashing against the windows.

Only when he was certain they had temporarily shaken off the surveillance did Alex pick up the pace. His voice dropped to a low, urgent whisper. "Hurry. Stay close. Don't look back."

Danielle's heart raced as she held the kids, rushing to keep up.

The elevator rode smoothly to their floor. When the doors slid open, the hallway was just as empty, devoid of any lurking figures.

Alex quickly scanned the cameras and corners. Satisfied they were safe for the moment, he strode over to their room and swiped the keycard.

"Get in."

He stood sideways, ushering Danielle and the kids inside first before stepping in last. With a sharp click, he slammed the door shut.

He secured the deadbolt and swiftly fastened the chain lock. His movements were fluid and practiced—so much so that it broke Danielle's heart.

Once it was done, he let out a long, heavy exhale. The rigid line of his back softened slightly as he leaned against the door, raising a hand to rub his throbbing temples.

He was still in his soaked clothes. Rainwater dripped from the ends of his hair, splashing onto the floorboards and leaving a dark, wet stain.

His face was still pale, his lips dry from the rain and the adrenaline. Exhaustion painted his features, but his eyes still glinted with high-alert vigilance.

Danielle guided the kids to the sofa and draped a small blanket over them.

She spun around and hurried back to Alex, her voice trembling with barely contained panic. "Alex, those people... who are they? Are they Harold's men?"

Alex looked at her, his gaze heavy. His voice was deep, resolute, and lacking any hesitation.

"Ninety-nine percent sure they are."

That confirmation drained whatever color was left from Danielle's face.

She slumped against the wall, as if all her strength had been instantly siphoned away. "He... he's really around here? What does he want? Are we being targeted?"

Just the thought of those calculating stares, the silent stalking, and the realization that their entire family was under Harold's surveillance was enough to send Danielle into a spiral of sheer terror.

"Don't be afraid." Alex reached out and firmly gripped her ice-cold hand. "As long as I'm here, they're not getting in. You guys will be safe."

His warm, strong grasp managed to anchor her racing heart just a little.

"I noticed something was off the moment we walked into the restaurant."

Alex lowered his voice, quickly breaking down the situation. "Those weren't just low-level thugs. They were professional tails—stealthy, precise, and highly targeted. We were their mark."

"They didn't make a move in the restaurant because they were worried about the cameras and the crowd. They wanted to wait until our guard was down, to strike when we were in our room or somewhere secluded."

"Harold knows damn well that I'm with you and the kids right now, and that I won't just blindly charge in to fight him. He's using that against us, trying to back us into a corner."
