Hanging up the phone, Davina looked at her husband and sighed. "Adela must be so relieved... relieved she didn't try to break you two up back then just because she didn't approve of Ivy. Otherwise, right now..."
Davina didn't finish the thought, but Thad understood perfectly.
If the matriarch had actually succeeded in tearing them apart years ago, Jamison would likely be counting down his final days right now...
Everything in this world had its cause and effect.
Choose kindness, and let heaven weigh the rest.
"Yeah, the whole family owes Ivy. Jamison finding her is the luckiest thing that's ever happened to him," Thad said, speaking from the heart.
He felt a profound, genuine gratitude toward Ivy as well.
Normally, when a younger brother fell ill like this, it should have been him, the older brother, donating his liver to save him.
But because of his age and physical condition, he was powerless to help even if he wanted to.
If Ivy hadn't been a perfect match and hadn't stepped up to donate half her liver without a second thought, the only thing waiting for his brother would have been death.
Ivy's act of love hadn't just saved his brother's life; it had lifted an immense burden off Thad's shoulders.

The sky darkened as night fell.
Jamison's surgery finally came to an end.
The operating room doors pushed open, and an exhausted doctor stepped out. Thad and Davina, nearly numb from the agonizing wait, rushed forward immediately. "Director Wylde, how did it go? Is Jamison okay?"
Because the surgery had taken an hour longer than scheduled, they couldn't help but fear something had gone wrong.
Director Wylde let out a long sigh, his posture relaxing as he patted Thad's shoulder. "Don't worry. There were some complications during the procedure, but we handled them in time. Overall, the surgery was a success. The hardest part now will be the rejection phase. We just have to wait and see."
Transplants were almost always followed by rejection risks. Some patients had flawless surgeries but simply couldn't survive the body's rejection of the new organ.
And even if they survived the rejection, most required lifelong medication.
Thad and his family were well aware of all this.
Hearing that the surgery was a success was enough to make them breathe a massive sigh of relief. "Thank you, Director Wylde. You've worked so hard for us lately!"
"It's nothing, just doing my job," Director Wylde waved it off, giving a few brief instructions before heading out.
They waited a while longer before Jamison was finally wheeled out.
He looked even more pale and haggard than Ivy had when she emerged. His naturally sharp features now looked frightfully gaunt, almost skeletal.
"Jamison? Jamison?" Thad called out softly as he followed his brother's bed toward the ICU.
