"As long as the deal is closed, that's what matters. You shouldn't push yourself so hard anymore; there will always be more money to make," Katrina Lester coaxed softly, her heart aching at how exhausted he looked.
"Alright, I'll listen to you. I'll take a break for a while and spend more time with you."
Katrina didn't say anything, but a sweet warmth bloomed in her chest.
She was pregnant and definitely needed more companionship—not just for herself, but for the little baby growing inside her.
Over the past two days, her mind had been a whirlwind of beautiful maternal fantasies. She knew that once Naylor Wilson heard the good news, he would be just as thrilled about their future.
When they arrived at his parents' house, Professor Penn took one look at her son and teased, "Well, look who finally decided to show up. I almost didn't recognize our busy executive."
Naylor set his laptop down and shrugged off his coat, firing right back. "You might not recognize me, but you surely recognize your favorite daughter-in-law, right?"
Katrina laughed, playfully swatting his arm. "Stop it!"
Chuckling, they slipped off their shoes and headed inside. A lavish dinner was already set out on the dining table.
Naylor sighed dramatically. "I'm finally getting a decent home-cooked meal, and it's all thanks to my wife."
Katrina glared at him. "Don't be so dramatic. You're acting like your parents starve you."
Dr. Wilson put down his book and stood up to greet them. "As long as you know your place. We could easily disown you, but we'd never give up Katrina. You'd better treat her right."
"Dad, when have I ever treated her badly?"
As the family settled around the table, Katrina's heart began to race at the thought of the secret she was about to reveal.
She glanced at her in-laws, suppressing her nervous excitement. After everyone had taken a few bites, she turned and pulled the lab report from her purse.
"Ahem. Naylor, I need to tell you something," she said, clearing her throat to prep him as she unfolded the paper.
Naylor turned to her. "What is it?"
"Look at this." She handed the report over, unable to hide the massive smile spreading across her face. "I'm pregnant. You're going to be a dad."
"What?!" Naylor's voice pitched an octave higher. He snatched the paper, staring at the words 'early pregnancy.' His eyes widened, his jaw dropped, and his gaze darted wildly between the report and Katrina.
"That... that was so fast!" he finally managed to stammer out after a stunned silence. He immediately leaped out of his chair, grabbing both of her hands in disbelief. "You're really pregnant? Already?"
"Yeah, I really am."
Before she could even finish her sentence, Naylor let out an ecstatic cheer. He scooped her up into his arms, cupping her face and showering her with kisses.
