"Naylor! Put me down! You psycho! You creep!" Katrina screamed. Being hoisted over Naylor's shoulder was like being carried like a sack of potatoes—it was barbaric to the extreme.
She was slung upside down, her head bobbing against his back. His shoulder dug straight into her stomach, and with every step he took, it felt like her organs were being violently rearranged.
Everyone in the room was so shocked by the scene that they completely forgot how to react.
It wasn't until Naylor had practically carried her out of the banquet hall that Cassandra's relatives finally snapped out of it and lunged forward to chase them down.
But Waller was incredibly quick. He immediately mobilized his family and blocked their path.
Forcing her frail body to stay upright, Willa glared at her ex-husband, furiously demanding, "Waller Lester! What do you think you're doing?! Get out of the way!"
Right then, Waller decided to play the role of the doting father, speaking with righteous indignation. "Naylor truly loves Katrina! I support their elopement! If anyone wants to chase them, you'll have to step over my dead body first!"
It had to be said—while Waller was worse than an animal as a husband and utterly failed as a father, in this exact moment, his selfish, gold-digging nature actually ended up helping Katrina.
Willa had long seen right through him. She pointed straight at his nose and cursed, "Don't think I don't know what you're plotting! You're desperate to suck up to Naylor and make him your son-in-law! Keep dreaming! If he had any intention of marrying your daughter, he wouldn't have waited until this exact moment to show up!"
Waller replied, "Mr. Wilson has changed his mind. He's willing to marry Katrina now."
What?
Willa froze. Was that true?
Hearing this, Cassandra immediately looked at her friend. "Willa, what does this mean? Was Katrina planning to back out of the wedding?"
"No, she wouldn't. That's impossible!" Willa denied it instantly, feeling utterly humiliated. "Katrina wouldn't do something like this. It's Naylor being absurd and completely out of line! I... I'll go find them right now. This wedding will go on as planned!"
Willa was already physically weak, and the sheer stress of the situation drained all the color from her face, making her breathing dangerously ragged.
She shakily pulled out her phone to dial her daughter's number, but the makeup artist quickly stepped forward holding Katrina's device. "Willa, your daughter's phone is right here."
After all, Katrina had been wearing a wedding gown with nowhere to keep a phone.
Realizing she couldn't reach her daughter, Willa knew the wedding was likely doomed. She looked at her friend, overwhelmed with unbearable guilt. "Cassandra, I'm so sorry. I failed to raise my daughter properly, I didn't—"
Before she could finish her sentence, her breath caught in her throat as waves of darkness crashed over her vision.
Her frail body swayed for a few seconds before collapsing heavily to the floor.
"Willa! Willa!"
"Hurry, call an ambulance! Quickly!"
Cassandra was a decent person. Despite losing all her dignity and becoming the laughingstock of the guests, she genuinely cared about Willa's well-being and instantly ordered her relatives to dial 911.
