Felicia walked into the reception room and immediately spotted Holden seated at the table. He still carried that same devilish, cynical posture, a faint, condescending smirk playing on his lips. As he lifted his gaze to look at her, a sharp glint flashed in his eyes.
He did not seem the least bit surprised by her appearance.
Felicia stared at him blankly. He had not come alone. She walked forward and took the seat at the head of the table, turning her attention directly to him. "Holden, what brings you here?"
Terry stood steadfastly right by her side.
Holden smiled lazily. "Evelynn, are you trying to call the shots for Max now?"
Felicia met his gaze without flinching. "I have a stake in this too. Shouldn't I be the one calling the shots for him?"
The smirk on Holden's lips deepened. "Weren't you two just in the middle of a messy divorce lawsuit?"
"That is none of your concern. Speak. What exactly are you here to do?" Felicia demanded.
Holden's expression tightened slightly. He raised a hand to the man beside him. The associate pulled a document from his briefcase and handed it over. Holden slid it across the table toward Felicia. "Take a look at this, Evelynn."
Felicia eyed the man warily before taking the file and flipping it open to read carefully. By the time she finished the first page, her face had turned entirely cold. She looked up and let out a harsh laugh. "Holden, you really cannot wait, can you? Are you really that certain he is not coming back?"
She suppressed the turbulence in her heart with all her might. She was absolutely certain now that Max's disappearance had something to do with Holden.
Holden maintained that shallow, unnerving smile. "Evelynn, I advise you to face reality. You think a man can fall into the ocean in the dead of night and survive? No matter how powerful Max is, he is still just a man, not a god."
