Felicia watched him closely. He was cautious around her, and she could not completely trust him either. Even if he was a trusted confidant, times of crisis were when true colors were revealed. She knew she had to find an opportunity to test his loyalty.
After a lengthy discussion, Felicia concluded that Terry could be trusted. Anyone chosen to be Max's assistant would undoubtedly be someone he had thoroughly vetted. Of course, the suspicion was mutual. Terry did not completely trust Felicia either. Both sides had subtly probed each other during their exchange.
If they were a deeply loving couple, a wife would never recover this quickly from her husband's disappearance. There was no trace of visible grief on her face. Oftentimes, the person sharing the bed was the one who needed to be guarded against the most.
However, by the end of their conversation, Terry chose to believe her. Everything she said was strategically flawless. It was obvious she was an apex professional in this industry. As he thought about it carefully, Mr. Hawthorne's wife would naturally have to be someone capable of shouldering immense burdens, not a helpless housewife who panicked and fell apart at the first sign of trouble.
Felicia gave her directive. "Pull up all the files on his assets and major projects here for me."
Terry nodded. "Understood. I will prepare them right away. Please wait a moment, Madam." With that, he stood up and strode briskly out of the office.
Once Terry was gone, Felicia turned her gaze toward the massive executive desk. She walked over, sat in the plush leather chair, and woke up the computer. A password prompt appeared on the screen.
She typed in Anne's birthday to test it. Incorrect password. She tried his birthday next, but it was still wrong. As for his bank card PINs, she had no idea what they were.
She attempted to combine Max and Anne's birthdays, trying two different variations, but both failed. She only had one attempt left. If she guessed wrong again, the system would lock her out entirely. She did not dare risk another try.
Leaning heavily against the back of the chair, she rubbed her temples, trying desperately to figure out what kind of password he would use.
During the agonizing wait, she called the butler for an update on the search and rescue efforts. They had already recovered the bodies of several missing passengers.
Upon hearing that, Felicia could practically hear the violent thumping of her own heart. She gripped her phone tightly as the butler continued speaking.
