Just as Felicia raised her hand to knock, the door opened from the inside. Her hand froze in midair as she looked up at the man standing before her. His usually sharp, serious expression softened instantly. "Why are you not resting yet?"
Felicia lowered her hand. "I have something to tell you."
"I have some urgent matters to handle right now," Max replied softly. "We will talk when I get back. Go get some rest." He placed his hands on her shoulders, leaned down to press a gentle kiss to her forehead, and then strode quickly out the door.
Felicia stood perfectly still in the hallway, remaining completely silent for a moment before turning back to the bedroom. When she woke the following day, the space beside her was empty. Max clearly had not returned the previous night. She got out of bed, washed up, and had breakfast. While packing her belongings and checking her bag for her ID and passport, she suddenly realized they were missing.
She did not even need to think about who had taken them. She grabbed her phone and immediately dialed Max's number. When the call connected, his exhausted, slightly raspy voice came through the speaker. "What is it?"
Hearing his tone, Felicia asked directly, "Did you take my passport?"
Max did not bother denying it. "Yes. Once I finish my work here, we will fly back together. Give me a week at most."
Felicia gripped her phone tighter. She had suspected that after going to such lengths to trick her into coming here, he would not let her leave so easily. But she never imagined he would brazenly confiscate her travel documents. Just as she opened her mouth to argue, the man gently cut her off.
"I am in the middle of a meeting right now. We will talk when I get back," Max said firmly.
