The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback novel Chapter 542

A man like him didn’t need some perfect match to boost his status. All that really mattered was whether someone could feed his emotional appetite.

Andrea no longer meant anything to him. Letting her go changed nothing for him.

The truth was, he’d only ever loved himself. Now, he had Anne too, but she was completely under his thumb, so no one could ever shake his heart.

Max listened to her question, his eyes dropping to the rose in her hand. The light flickered in his gaze, making it hard to read what he was thinking. A slow, almost teasing smile curled on his lips. His voice was low, “You want to see what it’s like to fall in love with me?”

Felicia turned her head, slow and deliberate.

They were so close, staring right into each other’s eyes. It was like the room shrank until there was nothing left but the two of them, breathing the same air. If either of them leaned in just a little, their lips would meet.

For one heartbeat, everything went perfectly still.

Felicia twisted in his arms until she was facing him. Max slid his arms around her waist, letting her set the pace.

All at once, she shoved him away with both hands.

Max dropped onto the edge of the bed, catching himself with his hands behind him. His silk pajamas parted, showing off the hard lines of his chest.

He stared at her, those dark eyes full of heat and feelings.

Felicia leaned in, one knee on the mattress and a hand on his shoulder. The rose in her other hand brushed along his jaw, and Max tipped his head back, letting her have control.

“Max, you really shouldn’t fall for me,” she warned, her voice soft but serious.

Max’s sharp features softened, and he asked, “Why not?”

The room felt wrapped in warmth, the lamplight golden, the scent of roses heavy in the air. It all looked so perfect, so romantic. But the more flawless things seemed, the more fake they felt.
